Melbourne City vs Sydney FC Preview & Prediction
Melbourne City will be desperate to snap a three-match losing streak when they confront Sydney FC in a Grand Final rematch on Tuesday night at AAMI Park.
It’s been a lacklustre start to the season from City – they’ve only won two of their six games and have lost the other four to languish in 10th spot on the ladder coming into this encounter.
Due to the lockdown, City haven’t played in two weeks, with their last outing resulting in a disappointing 1-0 defeat to the Newcastle Jets. City’s two previous games also saw them suffer disappointing losses, falling 3-2 to the Mariners after leading 2-0 and 3-1 to Perth Glory.
Meanwhile, Sydney are unbeaten in their last three fixtures heading into this showdown, beating Macarthur 3-0 and Wellington 2-1 before being held to a 0-0 stalemate by Brisbane on the weekend.
Sydney dominated the majority of the contest against Brisbane but just couldn’t find the knockout blow, with Rhyan Grant hitting the bar twice.
Brazilian striker Bobo finally made his A-League return for the Sky Blues, but he couldn’t find the back of the net as Sydney were held scoreless.
Nevertheless, it’s been a solid start for Sydney as they aim to defend their A-League title – they sit in fifth spot on the ladder and have multiple games in hand against all teams above them.
After edging City in last season’s Grand Final, Sydney will be looking for a repeat of that result – and with City in woeful form and having not played for the last fortnight, they are great value to come away with all three points.
