Match Preview
Thanks to a magnificent mid-season resurgence, Brisbane can sensationally close the gap to just one point on third-placed City if they take all three points on Sunday night.
Robbie Fowler’s side suffered an extremely slow start to the season, but they’ve turned it around considerably over the last couple of months, losing just one of their last nine games to surge into the top six.
Brisbane are sitting comfortably in sixth spot, five points clear of the Wanderers in seventh, and can now set their sights on chasing down a top four place – something that seemed impossible at the start of 2020.
Last week’s 1-1 draw with high-flying Perth Glory further highlighted just how much the Roar have improved – can they keep their momentum going at a venue they’ve struggled at in recent times?
City last lost to Brisbane at AAMI Park back in 2010, going unbeaten in their last 13 meetings at the stadium.
However, City have been struggling to find their best football over the last month, winning just one of their last four games and slipping to third on the ladder.
Coming off the bye last week, City will be hoping to start fresh and get their top two aspirations back on track.
That will be easier said than done though – Brisbane are now one of the toughest sides to break down in the competition, and although they’ve found it difficult at AAMI Park over the years, they are playing good enough to get a result on Sunday night.
