Melbourne Victory vs Wellington Phoenix Preview and Prediction

Melbourne Victory sits on the bottom of the table and currently have a three-match losing streak, they will need to leapfrog Wellington with the three points when they meet at Aami Park.

It has been an extremely poor start to the season for Victory, with their marquee players failing to deliver so far, which correlates to their lack of goal scoring opportunities. They’ve only managed to kick five goals in seven matches.

Former Victory director Richard Wilson departed the club on Monday, after their 0-1 loss to the Newcastle Jets. An injury to stand-in captain Adama Traore is a kick in the teeth to their already struggling defence.

Meanwhile, Wellington has not tasted victory since January when they beat the Mariners 1-2, since then they have suffered two defeats and most recently a 2-2 draw against the Wanderers.

The Phoenix started the game last time out promising, taking an early lead through Mirza Muratovic but a late flurry from both sides meant the game finished even.

Something both sides have struggled with this season has been their defensive dual success rates with the Phoenix at 50% and the Victory at 48%.

Both sides have been very poor so far this season and both come off short turnarounds after playing on Sunday, I believe a low scoring draw could be on the cards.
