Central Coast Mariners vs Perth Glory Preview & Prediction
Already enjoying a seven-point lead at the top of the ladder, Central Coast Mariners can further establish themselves as the A-League’s current benchmark when they entertain a slumping Perth Glory outfit in Gosford on Sunday.
It’s been a sensational start to the season for the Mariners. After picking up the wooden spoon over the last couple of years, Central Coast have won eight of their 11 games this season – including a 2-1 away win over Perth earlier this month.
Central Coast have scored more goals than any other side in the competition, led by teenage striker Alex Kuol (six) and veteran Matt Simon, who has fired home five goals.
Simon put the Mariners ahead in the sixth minute when these two sides met on March 2 before Costa Rican import Marco Urena headed home his debut goal for the club.
The Mariners backed up that win by easing past Macarthur 2-0 in their last outing to create that aforementioned seven-point lead at the top of the table.
Meanwhile, Perth have stumbled after an explosive start to the season and are in danger of losing all the momentum they generated a month or so ago.
After that loss to the Mariners, Perth went on to go down 3-0 to struggling Wellington in what was the first time they’ve failed to score this season.
For whatever reason, Glory have hit a wall over the last fortnight and it certainly won’t get any easier when they visit the league leaders on Sunday.
Central Coast are fantastic value to win at home and we’ll be backing the table-toppers to bag all three points against Perth for the second time in the space of a month.
