Prediction
Match Preview
City can create a six-point buffer over Glory if they emerge triumphant on Sunday night, but they’ve only won one of the last 12 meetings between the clubs.
It’s been a typically inconsistent season from City, despite their lofty position on the ladder, but they bounced back to the winners circle last week with a gritty 1-0 triumph over the in-form Brisbane Roar last week.
That result, coupled with Perth’s shock loss to Newcastle, catapulted City back up to second spot as they eye off a top two finish behind runaway leaders Sydney FC.
Bruno Fornaroli will once again be the main man for City – he’s had more shots on target than any other player this season and has scored five goals in his last four games at HBF Park.
Meanwhile, Glory saw their 10-game unbeaten run come to an end at the hands of a resurgent Newcastle outfit last week, but there’s certainly no cause for concern just yet.
It was a minor setback in the race for second spot, but due to their superior goal difference, Perth will leapfrog City if they win on Sunday.
Glory have a fantastic record over City at home, winning nine of their last 11 encounters, and with City still erratic from week to week, I’m backing the home side to come out on top here.
