Perth Glory play host to Wellington Phoenix in the ‘distance derby’ as both sides look to further entrench themselves in the top four on Friday night.

Glory vs Phoenix kicks off at 9.45pm AEDT at HBF Park. The game will be broadcast live on Fox Sports in Australia.

It’s third up against fourth in A-League Round 18 action on Friday night as Perth and Wellington square off.

Both sides have been in fantastic recent form – Glory set a club record six-match winning streak before drawing their last two games against both Melbourne teams, while Phoenix put together their own club-record nine-match undefeated run before going down to Brisbane two weeks ago.

Wellington got back on track in their last outing, beating Newcastle Jets 2-1 to lock down fourth spot on the ladder – and if City lose to Victory earlier on Friday, they would rise into second with a win over Perth.

Considering Wellington have never finished higher than fourth in their A-League history, it would be an enormous three points as the Kiwi club continue to impress.

Meanwhile, Glory won’t have tasted defeat in 70 days come match day, with Tony Popovic’s side bouncing back from a slow start to put themselves into premiership contention.

Bruno Fornaroli has well and truly hit his straps, firing in six goals from his last six games, while Wellington’s Mexican import Ulises Davila has also been on fire, netting 10 goals from 15 games.

Glory have had the wood over Phoenix in recent meetings, going undefeated against them in their last four games and averaging three goals in that span. It should be a cracking encounter, but I think the home side have the slight edge.
