Match Preview

After their Round 18 encounter was postponed due to torrential rain, Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers finally resume hostilities on Friday night.

The Sky Blues may be runaway leaders at the top of the table, but they now come up against the only team to have beaten them in the A-League this season.

Sydney suffered their only defeat of the campaign when they went down 1-0 at Bankwest all the way back in Round 3, but the two teams have experienced contrasting fortunes since then.

Western Sydney have fallen down the ladder to seventh spot and currently trail the top six by five points, while Markus Babbel has also been sacked.

Meanwhile, Sydney FC have surged to an insurmountable lead at the top of the ladder, creating a 13-point buffer with a game in hand following their 3-0 win over the Mariners last week.

It’s been another dominant campaign from Steve Corica’s troops and they are undoubtedly the team to beat come the finals series.

The Wanderers have improved since Jean-Paul de Marigny has taken charge, going unbeaten in their last three fixtures and thumping Adelaide 5-2 last week.

In saying that, Sydney have won their last eight home games over the Wanderers and it’s simply impossible to back against the reigning premiers at the moment.
