Match Preview
Only one team has beaten Sydney FC this season and the competition leaders confront them when they face fierce rivals the Wanderers on Saturday night.
Western Sydney secured a famous 1-0 win over the Sky Blues back in Round 3, but both sides have gone on highly contrasting runs since that night.
Sydney have won 11 of their last 12 games to surge 13 points clear at the top of the table and have once again set the benchmark for the A-League, while the Wanderers have suffered a dramatic fall from grace.
Indeed, the Wanderers have only won two of their last 12 fixtures and sacked coach Markus Babbel in the process.
Interim boss John Paul de Marigny did manage to claim all three points last week against the Mariners as the Wanderers prevailed by a 3-1 scoreline, lifting them to eighth on the ladder and within four points of a finals spot.
Still, the Wanderers have a mountain of work to do if they are to crack the top six, and they have the toughest test in the A-League coming up.
Sydney have been cruising basically all season and seem to have another gear to go to if they need to.
Steve Corica’s side will be out for revenge and are unbeaten in their last eight home derbies. It’s tough to back against them in this one.
