Wellington Phoenix can equal their best ever undefeated run if they can avoid defeat against Western Sydney Wanderers in A-League Round 14 action on Saturday.
Phoenix vs Wanderers kicks off at 2.45pm AEDT at Westpac Stadium. The game will be broadcast live on Fox Sports in Australia.
It’s been a stunning revival for Wellington since the start of the season, and if they can win or draw against the Wanderers on Saturday, they will match their best undefeated run as a club.
Wellington are unbeaten in their last eight games since going winless over their first four, with their 2-1 triumph over Central Coast last week propelling them into the top four.
International stars Ulises Davila and Gary Hooper got on the scoresheet as Phoenix continued to prove they are genuine premiership contenders when operating at this kind of level.
Can they keep their positive momentum going against a club that has suffered a dramatic loss in form from the start of the season?
Western Sydney began the campaign on fire and are still the only team to have beaten Sydney FC, but since that Round 3 triumph, they’ve only been able to win one game, dropping to eighth on the ladder as a result.
Things didn’t get any better last week as the Wanderers succumbed to a 2-1 loss to struggling Brisbane Roar, which was especially disappointing after a promising win over Adelaide and draw with Western United in their previous two games.
Phoenix have won their last three games against the Wanderers, and with the home ground advantage in the current form of both teams, the Kiwi club are favourites to prevail again.
Wellington Phoenix – $2.10
Western Sydney Wanderers – $3.40
Draw – $3.75
– Wellington have won their last three meetings
– Wanderers won eight of their last 11 prior to those
– Wanderers have lost four of their last five away games
