Newcastle Jets target their fifth straight win over Western Sydney Wanderers when the two sides clash in A-League Round 19 action on Saturday night.

Wanderers vs Jets kicks off at 7.30pm AEDT at Bankwest Stadium. The game will be broadcast live on Fox Sports in Australia.

Both the Wanderers and Jets will be hoping to build on last-start wins as they each attempt to make a late-season surge for the finals.

Carl Robinson will take charge of his first game as Newcastle manager after the Jets snapped a near three-month winless streak with a 4-3 win over the Mariners in last week’s derby.

It was a much-improved showing in attack, but Robinson will want to work on Newcastle’s shaky defence, which has become a big problem this season.

However, after looking down and out, the Jets could move within one point of the Wanderers if they were to emerge triumphant on Saturday night.

Western Sydney also have a new boss in Jean-Paul De Marigny and he claimed a win in his first match in charge as they also conquered the Mariners in Round 17 before last week’s bye.

The Wanderers started the season on fire and remain the only team to have beaten Sydney FC this season, but they’ve fallen away poorly and sit five points outside a finals spot. However, if results go their way this week and they take care of Newcastle, the Wanderers would be within a win of the top six.

In saying that, Western Sydney don’t have a good record against the Jets – they’ve lost their last four encounters and conceded 12 goals in that period. It’s a 50-50 contest for me, but there’s better value in backing the Jets home for back-to-back wins.
