Melbourne City vs Western United Preview & Prediction

City have registered four wins from four against United in the two clubs’ short history and Jamie Maclaren will be relishing the chance to come up against the boys from Geelong once more on Saturday night at AAMI Park.

Indeed, former Socceroos striker Maclaren scored in all four games between the teams last season, slotting in seven goals – including two braces.

City have experienced an up-and-down start to the season and some ill-discipline as well, with players sent off in a 1-0 win over Brisbane and a 2-0 loss against Adelaide.

Adrian Luna will be back for City after his dismissal against the Roar, but Scott Jamieson will be sidelined after receiving his marching orders against the Reds.

Meanwhile, United are playing their first game since the new A-League season launched just after Christmas.

It was a somewhat dour affair in Geelong that day, with United and Adelaide playing out a 0-0 stalemate. Mark Rudan has since conceded that some of his players were underdone coming into that clash, but that shouldn’t be the case now.

In saying that, it’s tough to back against City when you take their head-to-head into account. Playing on home turf for the first time this season, City will want to raise their level in front of their own fans, while Maclaren knows what it feels like to rustle the back of United’s net.
