Western United will be aiming to break Wellington Phoenix’s six-game unbeaten run when the two sides collide in A-League Round 12 action on Saturday.

Match Preview

The A-League comes to Ballarat on Saturday as two in-form teams in United and Phoenix go in search of all three points and some positive momentum heading into 2020.

Wellington have arguably been the best team in the competition in recent times, putting together a six-match unbeaten run to surge into the top six.

It’s been a remarkable resurgence for Phoenix, who started the season on a four-game winless streak – and if not for a howler from Mexican star Ulises Davila last week, Wellington easily could have beaten reigning premiers Sydney FC, but they had to settle for a 2-2 draw.

Hailed as one of the most entertaining games of the season, Wellington have well and truly found their groove and are in a purple patch right now – can they keep it up as they head to Ballarat on Saturday?

United have come out the other end of their first rough patch as a club, failing to score a goal during a three-game run, and are back up to third on the ladder after grabbing a late draw away to the Wanderers last week.

With wins over Brisbane and Victory in the previous fortnight, United are on a three-game unbeaten run themselves and could start to create a gap between them and the rest of the top six should they emerge triumphant on Saturday.

United’s first A-League game came against Wellington in Round 1 as they prevailed 1-0 – can they repeat that result on this side of the Tasman? If Phoenix play like they have been for the last two months, they certainly will have earned it.
