Match Preview
Unbeaten in the A-League in their last nine matches, Perth will be hoping to translate that form over to the AFC Champions League, where they make their competition debut against Japanese powerhouses FC Tokyo in Group F action on Tuesday.
Glory were supposed to play against Shanghai Shenhua in their opening group match, but the game was called off due to fears of the Corona Virus.
Tokyo meanwhile played out a 1-1 draw with South Korean side Ulsan Hyundai in their first match of the tournament. Brazilian striker Diego Oliveira put his team in front in the 64th minute, but Tokyo couldn’t hold on for the win as they conceded an own goal in the 82nd.
With the J-League yet to begin in 2020, Tokyo have only played two competitive matches for the year.
Meanwhile, Glory are 20 rounds into the A-League campaign and sitting pretty in third spot after a slow start to the season.
Perth had the bye last weekend and are coming off a last-start 4-2 win over Wellington Phoenix, where Nicolas D’Agostino claimed a double and star striker Bruno Fornaroli also got on the scoresheet.
Tokyo have got to be considered favourites – they’re playing at home and have the better squad, but they are lacking match play and Perth haven’t tasted defeat in over two months.
