Eintracht Frankfurt vs Bayern Munich Preview & Prediction
The 60th edition of the Bundesliga gets underway on Friday night with a heavyweight clash between Europa League champions Eintracht Frankfurt and Bundesliga juggernauts Bayern Munich.
It promises to be a thrilling encounter between two teams who will begin the season brimming with confidence.
Under the tutelage of Oliver Glasner, Frankfurt surged to their first European trophy in 32 years, claiming the famous scalp of Barcelona in the quarter-finals before going on to conquer West Ham and Rangers in the semis and final respectively.
Eintracht have so far managed to keep the core of that title-winning squad over the summer, including star man Filip Kostic, who has garnered interest from several clubs, including West Ham.
Frankfurt have also managed to add some more attacking quality to their already electric final third, with 2014 World Cup winner Mario Gotze signing from PSV, while Argentinean international Lucas Alario has arrived from Bayer Leverkusen.
Alario made an immediate impact for his new club, scoring in Frankfurt’s 4-0 demolition of Magdeburg in their mid-week clash in the DFB-Pokal and he is already looking like a solid addition to Eintracht’s striker stocks that already boast Columbian star Rafael Borre.
Meanwhile, it’s a small sample size, but Bayern already look like they haven’t missed a trick despite losing star striker Robert Lewandowski, crushing RB Leipzig 5-3 in the German Cup Cup last weekend.
Bayern raced to a 3-0 half-time lead before holding on in the second half, with Sadio Mane scoring on debut and playing a starring role as the central striker rather than the wide positions he was accustomed too at Liverpool.

Leroy Sane also got himself on the scoresheet late with a sparkling run from halfway to seal the victory for Bayern.
Julian Nagelsmann’s side waltzed to another Bundesliga title last season and once again they are heavy favourites to defend their title.
VERDICT:
It should be a cracking contest to kick off the season. Frankfurt have won two of the three previous meetings and will be keen to put on a show in front of their loyal fans.
However, Bayern are fresh and looking to make a statement to the naysayers who believe they’ll struggle to be as dominant without Lewandowski.
We see both teams getting on the scoresheet, but Bayern have firepower all over the park and banged in five goals last weekend against Leipzig. Back Bayern to prevail in a high-scoring contest on Friday night (Best Bayern win & BTTS odds $2.40 with bet365.)
Eintracht Frankfurt vs Bayern Munich Team News
Frankfurt are without fringe defenders Jerome Onguene and Aurelio Buta, but otherwise look to have a full compliment of players to select from.
New signing Lucas Alario started from the bench in the German Cup mid-week and will likely come on sometime in the second half, with Rafael Borre to start. Kristin Jakic could also come into the starting line-up after missing the win over Magdeburg.
Leon Goretzka is still sidelined for Bayern as the midfielder continues his recovery from knee surgery, with Marcel Sabitzer and Josh Kimmich set to start in central midfield.
Sadio Mane is set to start up front, while Leroy Sane could also earn a start, with Kingsley Coman suspended for two more Bundesliga matches after seeing red at Wolfsburg towards the end of last season.
