Arsenal vs Southampton Preview & Prediction

After a shaky and timid start to the season the Gunners went through a purple patch of form, but two defeats on the trot against Manchester United (3-2) and Everton (2-1).

Their latest defeat against the Toffees was similar to the type of performances they dished out earlier in the season. They held possession well but were stagnant lacked creativity until the game opened up in the final 10 minutes of the match.

It’s important they get the three points on Sunday, to remain in touching distance of the top four of which they’re currently four points behind.

Meanwhile, Southampton have failed to win a game for over a month, with draws against Leicester City and Brighton in their most recent outings. They conceded a heart-breaking 98th minute equaliser last time out.

Chelsea loanee Armando Broja has been the finishing product for the Saints this season, and his goal against Brighton proved why. For a tall man, his footwork and dribbling is superb.

A positive result looks unlikely, with the Saints being one of the worst away teams in the competition, winning just one match from seven away games.

Verdict:

Although Arsenal have lost their previous two league matches, I still expect them to bounce back into the winner’s circle. I suspect the game will be full of energy as both sides showcase their young squads.
