Juventus vs Roma Preview & Prediction

Roma will be gunning for an upset to extend their perfect start to the new Serie A season when they travel to Turin to face a Juventus side who are yet to hit top gear under Massimiliano Allegri.

It’s been a solid start for Jose Mourinho’s side, with Roma claiming a pair of 1-0 victories over Salernitana and Cremonese.

Nothing spectacular, but classic Mourinho-type victories, with the team now winning eight Serie A matches 1-0 under his tutelage.

Low-scoring games have become the norm for Roma – 13 of their last 16 outings in all competitions have produced under 2.5 goals, obviously including both games so far this term.

English defender Chris Smalling bagged the winner last week against Cremonese, while Paulo Dybala would love nothing more than to open his account against his former club at a stadium where he has scored four of his last six competitive goals.

Meanwhile, Juventus launched their campaign with a promising 3-0 home dispatch of Sassuolo, but they were hugely disappointing last week in a 0-0 stalemate with a struggling Sampdoria side.

It may be the first time Juventus have began a Serie A season with consecutive clean sheets in eight years, but Allegri will demand more spark from his team here.

Dusan Vlahovic has already been caught offside nine times this season – more than any other player – and he had arguably his worst game for Juventus last week.

Juventus have won three straight against Roma, but they have still have some big guns sidelined and will find it tough to break down a strong defensive wall.

VERDICT:

It’s an intriguing contest – Juventus need to restore some confidence in front of their home fans, while Roma are genuine dark horses for the title this season and this is their first big test of the campaign.

Both teams have some key players out injured, so it remains to be seen how that impacts either side. The value here is with a draw or Roma, but for our best bet, we’re going to back a low-scoring affair, with under 2.5 goals (Best Under 2.5 goals odds $1.80 with bet365.)

Juventus vs Roma Team News

Juventus are still without the services of some massive names, including Paul Pogo, Federico Chiesa, Angel Di Maria, while Kaio Jorge and Wojciech Szczesny are also sidelined.

Vlahovic and Moise Kean are likely to lead the line again, with Filip Kostic hoping to further settle on the left wing after his big move from Frankfurt.

Big blow for Roma, with Nicolo Zaniolo ruled out for up to a month with a shoulder injury, while Georginio Wijnaldum is out long-term after breaking his leg.

Tammy Abraham and Paulo Dybala should start up front, with the former looking to make an impact against his former club.
