?? Nicaragua Liga Primera ??

One of the few football leagues still running across the world, the Nicaragua Liga Primera – in its current format – was established in 1993 and is part of the CONCACAF Federation.

A total of 10 teams compete in the top division. The season is traditionally played in two parts: the Torneo de Apertura from August through November and Torneo de Clausura from January through May.

The top four teams at the end of each regular season square off in a play-off over two-legged semi-finals and a subsequent final, while the last-placed club and the loser of the eighth vs ninth play-off gets relegated to the second (or ‘Segunda’) division.

Diriangen are the most successful team in Nicaragua Liga Primera history, winning the title on 27 occasions, which is 11 more times than the next best (Real Esteli with 16). However, Diriangen have only won one premiership since 2005-06, with Real Esteli prevailing in 11 of the last 15 campaigns.

Real Esteil are the reigning champions of the Clausura competition.

Games take place at friendly times for Australians, with the early fixtures kicking off from 8.00am AEDT and we’ll be here each week with our best Nicaragua Liga Primera Tips.

Nicaragua Liga Primera Tips, Preview and Betting Advice

Chinandega FC vs Juventus Managua: Thursday April 2, 8.00am (AEDT)

These two teams are struggling in the lower half of the table and desperately need a win to restore some confidence – especially Chinandega, who have lost five of their last seven matches and were on the wrong end of a 7-0 demolition at the hands of Walter Ferretti in Round 12.

Juventus Managua meanwhile went down 2-0 away to Municipal Jalapa last time out, meaning they have yet to win a match on the road since August 2019. However, they are in much better form than Chinandega, winning two of their last four games, and with the hosts really struggling after last week’s thrashing, Juventus Managua look good to snap their away drought.

Result: Juventus Managua $2.00 @Sportsbet
Best Bet: Over 2.5 goals $1.85 @Sportsbet

Deportivo Las Sabanas FC vs Real Madriz: Thursday April 2, 8.00am (AEDT)

Real Madriz, despite languishing outside the top six, are in good form heading into this clash, winning their last two games without conceding a goal – and we think they will extend that run to three on Thursday morning.

Las Sabanas are anchored to the bottom of the ladder and are winless in their last 10 games, only scoring five goals during that period. They have drawn three of their last four games at home, but they are in desperate need of some firepower up front. Real Madriz are the team in form and are great value as underdogs with the bookies.

Result: Real Madriz – $3.00 @bet365
Best Bet: Double chance: Draw or Real Madriz – $1.53 @bet365

Deportivo Ocotal vs ART Municipal Jalapa: Thursday April 2, 9.00am (AEDT)

Jalapa head into this encounter on the back of a 2-0 win over Juventus Managua to cement their spot in the top six – however, they’ve only won one of their last 17 away matches.

Ocotal, meanwhile, are on a three-match losing streak after falling 2-0 to Real Madriz in Round 12 – a result that sees them languishing in ninth place on the ladder, just three points ahead of last-placed Las Sabanas. In saying that, Ocotal are unbeaten in five of their last six matches in all competitions at home and look good to carve out a result against a Jalapa outfit that is still searching for consistency.

Result: Draw $3.00 @Unibet
Best Bet: Under 2.5 goals $1.72 @Unibet

Diriangen FC vs CD Walter Ferretti: Thursday April 2, 11.00am (AEDT)

It’s third up against fourth as the Nicaragua’s most successful club Diriangen take on fourth-placed Walter Ferretti. Both sides are in patchy form at the moment – Dirangen were on a three-match winning run before a draw and loss in their last two games, while Ferretti lost three consecutive fixtures either side of two wins in their last five.

Ferretti obliterated Chinandega 7-0 last week, with Mexican striker Fernando Villalpando netting a hat-trick, however Diriangen were impressive in defeat to competition leaders Managua, only conceding in the 93rd minute with 10-men to fall 2-1. Before that, Diriangen had barely lost games and they should be able to bounce back at home here.

Result: Diriangen $1.65 @BetEasy
Best Bet: Diriangen to win to nil $2.42 @BetEasy

Managua FC vs Real Esteli FC: Thursday April 2, 12.00pm (AEDT)

A thrilling top-of-the-table showdown brings Round 13 action to a close. Managua maintained their lead at the top of the ladder with a 2-1 win over the in-form Diriangen last week and are on a six-match winning streak at home.

Real Esteli were forced to battle hard to overcome last-placed Las Sabanas 1-0 last week and trail Managua by just two points on the ladder.

Both of these sides are clearly confident and will be determined to claim bragging rights ahead of the play-offs. Managua’s superb home record could just prove the difference.

Result: Managua $2.10 @bet365
Best Bet: Under 2.5 goals $1.72 @bet365
