Grigor Dimitrov vs Marin Cilic Tips & Predictions
One of the best matches taking place in the opening round of the Australian Open features Grigor Dimitrov taking on Marin Cilic out on Court 3.
Both players have enjoyed tremendous success at the Australian Open throughout their careers – Cilic of course made the final a few years ago, stretching Roger Federer to five sets, while Dimitrov is a former semi-finalist, where he also pushed Rafael Nadal the distance.
Dimitrov (ranked No. 19) and Cilic (No. 43) aren’t at their best right now, but they are still very capable on their day – and they’ve played some cracking matches before, including a five-set epic at the 2019 French Open, which the Bulgarian won in five sets.
Cilic lost his only lead-in match in a deciding-set tiebreak to Jeremy Chardy, while Dimitrov beat a pair of Aussies in Andrew Harris and Alexei Popyrin before falling in straights to Corentin Moutet.
Neither player looked convincing, but they should be better for the run and ready to give it everything on Monday. I’m predicting another long match between these two, but think Dimitrov’s natural athleticism will give him the slight edge.
