Daniil Medvedev vs Maxime Cressy Tips, Prediction & Preview

Daniil Medvedev continues his pursuit of a first Australian Open title when he comes up against big-serving American Maxime Cressy in the fourth round on Monday.

Medvedev – who is bidding to become the first player in history to win their second major immediately after their first – has been in sensational form so far this tournament, easing past Henri Laaksonen and Botic Van De Zandschulp either side of a blockbuster victory over Nick Kyrgios.

The World No. 2 is the deserved favourite for the title in the absence of Novak Djokovic and is looking good to go one step further than his runner-up finish in Melbourne to the Serbian 12 months ago.

Medvedev has the experience of winning a slam after he crushed Djokovic in the US Open final last year and he will be extremely confident of doubling down on that triumph in Melbourne, with Alexander Zverev and Rafael Nadal looking like the only players that could potentially beat him on current form.

No disrespect to Cressy, but the American likely won’t offer much resistance on Monday – but with a serve as good as his, you can never completely rule him out.

Cressy has spoken about his desire to bring serve-and-volleying back to the game and he’s proven it still has a place after winning 11 of his 13 matches to begin 2022, finishing runner-up to Nadal at the Melbourne Summer Set, making the Sydney quarter-finals and progressing to his maiden fourth round at a slam over the last week.

However, the bad news for Cressy is that Medvedev absolutely loves a target and he will get plenty of practice in this match-up. Cressy is serving well enough to perhaps force one tiebreak, but Medvedev will likely cruise into the quarter-finals with minimal fuss.
