Iga Swiatek vs Daria Kasatkina Tips, Prediction & Preview

Arguably the best match on the women’s side on Day 6 of the Australian Open pits former French Open champion Iga Swiatek up against former top 10 player Daria Kasatkina.

Both players bring great form into this encounter having produced successful lead-in tournaments before the Australian Open, with Swiatek making the semi-finals of Adelaide before going down to Ash Barty and Kasatkina reaching the semi-finals in both Melbourne and Sydney, losing to Amanda Anisimova and Paula Badosa.

Swiatek and Kasatkina have continued their fine form into the Australian Open and will fancy their chances of coming through what has become a wide open bottom half of the women’s draw.

Swiatek, who has made the fourth round in Melbourne the last two years, has cruised past Harriet Dart and Rebecca Peterson without dropping a set, while Kasatkina has accounted for Stefanie Voegele and Magda Linette in straights.

With both players in tremendous form, it sets us up magnificently for a blockbuster third round showdown on Saturday.

Swiatek deserves favouritism, but the value here is with Kasatkina. The Russian had a nice resurgence throughout 2021 and she’s already raised her level for the start of 2022.

Kasatkina ripped apart Garbine Muguruza in Sydney and defeated Swiatek in their only previous meeting last year on the grass of Eastbourne, dropping just one game in the last two sets.

We’ll be taking Kasatkina with 4.5 games head start and having a little something on the Russian to pull off the upset.
