Barty vs Pliskova Tips & Predictions
Barty is aiming to become the first Aussie to win the Wimbledon ladies’ singles title since 1980, while Pliskova is still gunning for her maiden major title as the pair prepare to square off in the final on Saturday.
Both players have been supremely dominant all tournament, dropping just one set on the way to the final – Barty lost the second set of her opening round to Carla Suarez Navarro and Pliskova dropped the opener in her semi-final against second seed Aryna Sabalenka.
Barty has obviously been the far more consistent player of the two over the last couple of seasons and that’s reflected in her No. 1 ranking, but Pliskova is a former No. 1 and when she’s confident and puts together a run like this, she’s easily a top five player or better.
As a result, this is shaping as a blockbuster showdown for the silverware.
Barty leads the H2H 4-2, but most of their meetings have been extremely tight, with the Australian winning the last three, with two of those going the distance, while Pliskova won their only grass court clash in 2016 in two tiebreaks.
On grass, we tend to give Barty the edge. The Aussie has fantastic variety and her low backhand slice should force Pliskova into uncomfortable positions.
Pliskova hits flat and hard and a low, skidding ball on the grass certainly isn’t in her strike zone, so Barty will likely try and exploit that area of her game.
On the flip side, Pliskova has the power and weapons to take the match out of Barty’s hands if she plays at her peak throughout the final.
However, we go back to consistency and that’s something Pliskova has struggled with over the last couple of seasons and that pressure is amplified in a final.
Pliskova is certainly capable of blasting her way to a set, but when push comes to shove, Barty has been the more steady and reliable, and she’s the superior grass courter.
Barty has won the last two meetings between the pair in three sets and we’ll be backing the World No. 1 to emerge triumphant in similar circumstances on Saturday.
