The contenders

PSG: the holders, with a problem

PSG have won all three games, including the 4-2 win over Barcelona on Matchday 3, and have shortened from $6 to about $4.50. The cost was heavy: Khvicha Kvaratskhelia ruptured his ACL in that game and is likely to miss the rest of the season, and the club has said Ousmane Dembélé and Marquinhos are out for weeks.

Barcelona: joint favourites despite defeat

That loss in Paris was Barcelona’s first of the season, but the market still likes them more than it did in September. They have come in from $7 to about $4.50, level with PSG, and sit eighth on six points.

Arsenal and Bayern Munich

Arsenal and Bayern drew 2-2 in Munich on Matchday 3. Arsenal are seventh, unbeaten, and about $6.50; the worry is Bukayo Saka, who went off injured after ten minutes, with no confirmed timeline yet. Bayern are 14th after also drawing 3-3 at Viking, but Harry Kane is the competition’s joint top scorer and the market has them unchanged at about $7.

Real Madrid and Manchester City

Real Madrid have won all three yet drifted slightly to about $9. City are tenth after a defeat and two wins, and about $11. Erling Haaland has four goals in two games and did not play on Matchday 3.

Liverpool and Aston Villa: perfect records, long prices

Liverpool have won all three, including a 4-3 comeback against Villarreal from 2-0 down, yet have drifted from $13 to about $21; the market has not been convinced by a defence that has conceded seven goals. Villa have the joint-best goal difference after a 6-0 win over Fenerbahçe and are about $51.

Inter and Manchester United: in the play-off zone

Inter lost 4-3 at home to Club Brugge and are 20th. United lost 2-0 at Atlético and 4-1 at Como and are 21st. Both have drifted, United from $21 to about $51.
