HOW THE DALLY M MEDAL WORKS

Named in honour of former rugby league champion Herbert Henry “Dally” Messenger, the Dally M Medal is the highest individual accolade that a player can receive.

It has been around since 1979 and was won by James Tedesco in 2019. Retired great Johnathan Thurston who played most of his career for the North Queensland Cowboys won the Dally M Medal four times in 2005, 2007, 2014 and 2015.

Voting occurs after each game with rugby league sports commentators giving three votes to the best player, two votes to second-best player and one vote to third-best player for that game.

For each week of suspension that a player incurs, they will lose three votes.

Votes are public up to Round 16 with the rest of the season kept secret until after the Dally M Awards ceremony.

BETTING ON THE DALLY M MEDAL

The Dally M Medal betting market is available early during the season with punters being able to place bets on who they think will be awarded the Dally M Medal for that season. Odds will fluctuate based on how players have been performing after each game.
