Storm vs Panthers
Amazingly, the Panthers are the underdog coming into this Grand Final despite the fact that Nathan Cleary is the best player in the NRL, and Penrith is going for their fourth premiership in a row.
However, the bookies haven’t made a mistake. The Storm have radically raised their form compared to last season and downed Penrith in Round 1 and 24 this season. Craig Bellamy’s side barely makes any mistakes, they complete nearly all of their sets, and good luck getting a cheap penalty out of them.
The Storm won’t have it easier against the Panthers, who have an iron wall defence and only concede 16 points per game. Also, the Storm have the added challenge of playing the Panthers in Sydney in front of a tough crowd. Melbourne have looked invincible when playing at home but did lose three away games during the regular season.
We are expecting this game to be a bruising back-and-forth affair. The two sides last met just a few weeks ago in Round 24, where Melbourne had to pull out every trick in the book to beat the Panthers 24-22.
Jahrome Hughes and Ryan Papenhuyzen are the key players for the Storm. Hughes is the on-field general for Melbourne and scored three tries last week. The Storm’s attack is lethal when Hughes takes on the line and fires a quick pass out to a rampaging Papenhuyzen.
Whether Penrith wins or loses the Grand Final comes down to Nathan Cleary. The halfback has been carrying the Panthers with his incredible kicking game and amazing ability to unleash the perfect pass at the right time. If Cleary is firing on all cylinders, then the Panthers have a great chance of becoming the first team to win four premierships in a row!
