Here are the latest happenings in the NRL Telstra Premiership at the end of round 7.
Dragons Shock Sea Eagles at Brookie
Manly Sea Eagles 18-20 St. George Illawarra Dragons
Brookvale has long been a fortress for Manly, but nobody told Tyrell Sloan that. The 22-year-old fullback scored 2 tries and 2 conversions, and a penalty from Valentine Holmes put the Dragons up 14-0. Tolutau Koula and Ben Trbojevic’s tries and Reuben Garrick’s boot levelled the game.
Jacob Liddle then scored for the Dragons in the 61st minute. The drama wasn’t over. Jason Saab scored in the 66th minute, but Garrick missed the conversion, allowing the Dragons to hold on.
Bulldogs Feast on Rabbitohs
Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs 32-0 South Sydney Rabbitohs
The Bulldogs absolutely carved the Bunnies up. The game was essentially over at half-time after the Doggies scored 3 converted tries and added a penalty for good measure. Amazingly, the Rabbitohs had just under 23 minutes in possession!
Dolphins Upset Storm
The Dolphins 42-22 Melbourne Storm
The Dolphins were riding a two-game winning streak coming into this match, but nobody expected them to beat the reigning minor premiers. Amazingly, the Storm got off to the perfect start, scoring 3 unanswered tries, but then an Easter miracle occurred, and the Dolphins scored 6 on the trot!
Warriors Grind Down Broncos
New Zealand Warriors 20-18 Brisbane Broncos
Never bet against the Warriors in New Zealand. In front of their home ground fans, they turn into a completely different team. The teams were level at half-time, but early in the second half, the Warriors scored 3 unanswered tries. The Broncos mounted a desperate comeback, but it was too late.
Panthers Outclass Roosters
Sydney Roosters 12-40 Penrith Panthers
The Panthers were very nervous coming into this one after losing 4 in a row. Despite Daniel Tupou crashing over the line in the 4th minute, the Panthers dominated the game, scoring 6 tries. Nathan Cleary had an incredible kicking performance with 6 conversions and 1 penalty.
Raiders Too Good for Titans
Gold Coast Titans 20-30 Canberra Raiders
It looked like the Titans would run away with this game after jumping to a 16-0 lead in the first 20 minutes of the match. However, Ricky Stuart’s side doesn’t roll over easily.
The Raiders then went on an epic run with tries from Hudson Young, Ethan Strange, and Sebastian Kris all happening within 10 minutes. Jamal Fogarty’s boot proved the difference as he kicked 4 conversions and 1 penalty.
Sharks Too Powerful for Knights
Newcastle Knights 14-34 Cronulla Sharks
The Knights have now lost four games in a row after another very poor showing. They completed just 66% of their sets, which is abysmal.
The Sharks dominated possession and only had to make 294 tackles compared to the Knights, who were forced to complete 419 tackles. The Sharks scored 3 unanswered tries to kickstart the game and led the entire match.
Eels Defy Tigers
Wests Tigers 22-38 Parramatta Eels
The Tigers were confident coming into this clash against the Eels, who’ve been by far the worst team in the NRL this season. However, Josh Addo-Carr got Parramatta off to the perfect start with a try in the 14th minute.
Just after half-time, the Tigers went to sleep, and the Eels scored 3 unanswered tries. Despite a late comeback, the Eels ended up cruising to victory, scoring 7 tries to 4.
