Jillaroos vs Fiji Tips & Prediction

Our pick: Jillaroos to win. Australia beat Samoa 40-0 and England 78-0, and they have the deeper squad by a distance. Fiji have never played a World Cup semi-final, and most of their squad play outside the NRLW.

The angle we like: Fiji at the line. Fiji’s defence is the surprise of the tournament. They conceded 28 points in three games and held New Zealand to 18 in Newcastle, losing by six. If bookmakers set the Jillaroos a start in the region of their 78-0 win over England, Fiji with that start is the bet we will look at first.

The odds. We did not have semi-final match prices on Saturday night (31 October), when the pairing was settled. We will add the head to head, line and our best bet once the teams are named early in the week.

Jillaroos vs Fiji Head to Head

We could not find a previous Test between the Jillaroos and Fiji, so this looks to be the first meeting. Fiji qualified for this World Cup by beating Nigeria 62-4 in the final of the qualifying series in Canada.

Form at this World Cup

Jillaroos beat Samoa 40-0 in the opener at CommBank Stadium and England 78-0 in Perth, scoring 15 tries. They finish Group A against Wales at CommBank Stadium on Sunday 1 November (our Jillaroos vs Wales tips).

Fiji lost 18-12 to New Zealand in Newcastle, beat PNG 40-4 in Port Moresby for their first Women’s World Cup win, with a hat-trick off the bench for Tahlia Marshall, and beat France 54-6 on the Gold Coast to seal second place in Group B. Latisha Smythe was player of the match against France and Marshall scored twice more.

Jillaroos vs Fiji Team News

Semi-final teams are due early in the week, with final changes about an hour before kick-off.

Jillaroos: team news

Julia Robinson (dislocated wrist) is out of the tournament, and Tiana Penitani Gray was ruled out of the Wales game on Friday with a foot injury. Raiders back Sheridan Gallagher has been called into the squad. Captain Isabelle Kelly, Tamika Upton, Tarryn Aiken, Olivia Kernick and Jess Sergis are the core of the side. The semi-final team will be named after the Wales game.

Fiji: team news

Fiji’s squad is almost entirely based overseas, with 22 of the 23 players at clubs outside Fiji and ten in the NRLW. Tahlia Marshall, with five tries in the last two games, and Latisha Smythe are the players to watch.

What Is at Stake

The winner plays in the final at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane on Sunday 15 November at 4:15pm AEDT, before the men’s final. Their opponent is the winner of the first semi-final, New Zealand v Samoa in Newcastle on Saturday 7 November. New Zealand won Group B with three wins from three, and Samoa reached their first World Cup semi-final by beating England 24-6.

The Jillaroos are chasing a fourth World Cup in a row. Fiji are in their first World Cup semi-final.

Jillaroos vs Fiji Betting Markets

  • Head to head: the match winner, with golden point extra time if it is level at full time.
  • Line: a points start for the underdog, usually the better market when the head-to-head price is short.
  • Total points: over or under a set number of combined points. Women’s games run for 70 minutes, so totals are lower than in the men’s game.
  • Try scorers: first, last and anytime try scorer markets on both squads.
  • Tournament winner: the Jillaroos are favourites to win a fourth title in a row.
