The Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival is Queensland’s headline block of racing ā a six-week showpiece running from mid-May to late-June across Doomben and Eagle Farm. The carnival features eight Group 1 races headlined by the $3 million Stradbroke Handicap and the $1.5 million Doomben 10,000, plus the country’s biggest Listed raceday in the Ipswich Cup.

Winter racing is one of the most active betting blocks of the year outside the Melbourne and Sydney carnivals. Key markets include:
The Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival runs from mid-May through to late-June each year, spanning six headline Saturdays across Doomben and Eagle Farm plus the Ipswich Cup at the Ipswich Turf Club. The 2026 carnival opens on Saturday 16 May (Doomben 10,000 Day) and the Group 1 program concludes with Tattersall’s Tiara Day in late June.
The $3 million Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm is the richest race of the carnival and its traditional headline event. The Doomben 10,000 (1200m) is the richest weight-for-age sprint of the carnival at $1.5 million.
There are eight Group 1 races: Doomben Cup, Doomben 10,000, Kingsford-Smith Cup, Queensland Oaks, Queensland Derby, Stradbroke Handicap, JJ Atkins and Tattersall’s Tiara.
The carnival is split between Doomben Racecourse for the first two Saturdays and Eagle Farm for the subsequent meetings, with the Ipswich Cup at the Ipswich Turf Club sitting in the middle of the carnival.
