Round 19 is the first round back after State of Origin III (won by NSW on Wednesday), so returning representatives — and the risk of late withdrawals — shape every game. Broncos, Dragons and Penrith have the bye. Catch up on last week first (Round 18 results): Newcastle’s late field goal sank the Dolphins and vaulted the Knights into the top four, while Penrith bounced back with a big win.

The eight is a genuine logjam — the Knights, Dolphins, Sharks, Manly, Souths and Cowboys are all within touching distance — which makes Rabbitohs v Knights and Sea Eagles v Cowboys the pick of the round. Below are our Round 19 predictions and head-to-head reads for every game; model the run home with the ladder predictor, and see who tops the premiership market.

Wests Tigers vs Warriors

Prediction: Warriors to win by 1-12 points

The Warriors (2nd, 26pts) come off the bye defending a top-four spot, and history is firmly on their side — they have won nine of the last 10 in this fixture and dominate it on Australian soil. James Fisher-Harris, Leka Halasima and Alofiana Khan-Pereira all return to re-establish middle control.

The Tigers, four points outside the eight with their season on the line, get Jarome Luai back from concussion to sharpen the attack, but a defence leaking 30-plus a game is the concern. Back the Warriors around the -8.5 line; the bigger handicap is risky given the home crowd.

Dolphins vs Sharks

Prediction: Dolphins to win by 1-12 points

A quality mid-table clash between sides level on 24 points and jostling for a top-six seeding. The Dolphins had their eight-game winning streak ended by Newcastle’s late field goal last week, but they have won three of the last four meetings with Cronulla and love Kayo Stadium.

The Sharks welcome a swag of representatives back — Addin Fonua-Blake, Blayke Brailey and Briton Nikora among them — though several are backing up from Origin. Expect a tight one: the Dolphins around -4.5 and Jamayne Isaako (16 tries in 15 games) anytime are the plays.

Bulldogs vs Raiders

Prediction: Bulldogs to win by 1-12 points

Two in-form packs meet at Accor Stadium, the Bulldogs (10th) chasing a spot in the eight after a three-game winning run, captain Stephen Crichton backing up from Origin at five-eighth. Canberra arrive fresh off the bye and dangerous through the middle, and the tipsters are genuinely split on this one.

We side with the rested, home Bulldogs — Crichton’s class the difference — but take the head-to-head over the line given the coin-flip feel.

Roosters vs Eels

Prediction: Roosters to win by 1-12 points

The big team-news story of the round: Roosters fullback James Tedesco was concussed in Origin III and will miss, with Sam Walker’s availability also in doubt after his own head knock — a significant spine disruption. Daniel Tupou lines up for his 300th NRL game. Parramatta, meanwhile, get halfback Mitchell Moses back, a major lift.

The Roosters (3rd) should still have the class and defence to control an inconsistent Eels side, but the Tedesco blow tightens it: back them on the head-to-head rather than the line, with Eels +12.5 the value.

Rabbitohs vs Knights

Prediction: Knights to win by 1-12 points

Newcastle (4th) arrive red-hot — seven wins from eight, including last week’s field-goal win over the Dolphins — with Kalyn Ponga backing up from Origin and Dylan Brown steering from halfback. South Sydney, clinging to eighth, welcome back Cameron Murray and Campbell Graham but are without Cody Walker.

The Knights’ knack for grinding out tight games edges them, though a home Souths keeps it close — Knights head-to-head, with Souths +6.5 the value angle.

Head-to-head: Rabbitohs vs Knights prediction & H2H record →

Sea Eagles vs Cowboys

Prediction: Sea Eagles to win by 1-12 points

A top-eight-bubble six-pointer between sides locked together on 22 points. Manly have Tom Trbojevic back at fullback and the Brookvale edge, but the Cowboys are the form team, having won four straight including a boilover of ladder-leaders Penrith.

This is a genuine coin-flip: we lean Manly at home in a tight one, but the Cowboys at +4.5 (or on the head-to-head) are the value upset play.

Head-to-head: Sea Eagles vs Cowboys prediction & H2H record →

Storm vs Titans

Prediction: Storm to win by 13+ points

The round’s most one-sided assignment on paper. Melbourne return from the bye with a full-strength spine — Cameron Munster, Harry Grant, Jahrome Hughes and Nick Meaney all back — against a Titans side out of contention.

The Storm have won 11 of the last 12 meetings and Gold Coast have lost eight of nine at AAMI Park. Back Melbourne to win comfortably, with the -12.5 line the play.

Rabbitohs v Knights and Sea Eagles v Cowboys are the picks — both are tight top-eight six-pointers between sides separated by a point or two on the ladder.
