Magic Millions 2YO Classic Tips, Betting Preview and Odds

Trent Orwin:

The $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) will be run at the Gold Coast on Saturday, January 11 and Bettingpro.com.au provides you with a comprehensive guide to the race.

Magic Millions 2YO Classic Final Field and Barrier Draw

Race favourite Aim, who is trained by Peter and Paul Snowden, will jump from barrier 2 while stablemates King’s Legacy, Nitrous and Stellar Pauline have drawn wider in gates 8, 11 and 13 respectively.

King’s Legacy defeated Every Rose in the BJ McLachlan (1200m) last start which franked the form of Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott’s unbeaten colt, Farnan, who defeated Every Rose in the Wyong Magic Millions 2YO (1100m).

Farnan has drawn ideally in gate 5 following his impressive victory, while Every Rose has come up with barrier 9.

Ballarat Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1000m) winner Euphoric Summer finished 3rd in the BJ McLachlan, and that form ties in well with Rathlin.

The Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-prepared colt was 2nd at Ballarat before a runaway three-length victory in the Phelan Ready Stakes (1110m) at Doomben.

Magic Millions 2YO Classic Tips

The fillies have had the wood on the boys in recent times with Exhilarates (2019), Sunlight (2018) and Houtzen (2017) flying the flag for the fairer sex.

In fact, fillies have won seven of the past 10 editions of the rich 2YO feature.

In 2020, another filly rates on top with the Steven O’Dea-trained Gotta Kiss looming large.

The daughter of Not A Single Doubt won over 1000m at Eagle Farm on debut, stopping the clock at 0:57.76.

She was then edged out by Rothfire at the same track and trip where they ran a much slower 0:59.16.

With 63 days between runs, she went to Deagon for a soft trial win before bouncing back with an impressive 1000m victory at Eagle Farm in 0:56.77 which rated six lengths better than her debut win.

Her last start victory over Lady Banff and Anders rated 3.7 lengths better than standard BM, and this is the highest last start BM figure in Saturday’s feature.

She is one of just two horses to have broken 33 seconds for their final 600m when coming home in 32.72 last start , and Farnan is the other to have run a slick final 600m when going 32.96 at Canberra.

She has the equal second fastest final 200m, with both Gotta Kiss and Nitrous having clocked 11.40 for their final furlong, while only Kavak has gone quicker (11.08), however, that was over 900m.

Gotta Kiss now has to step up to 1200m for the first time, but I can’t see an issue with it, and in fact, I think she will excel over slightly longer.

Her dam, Sweet Kiss, was most effective over 1400m with her two most impressive victories being over this trip.

And her sire, Not A Single Doubt, has produced Group 1 winners from 1200m to 2500m.

With two trials and then two 1000m runs, followed by another trial and another 1000m run, Gotta Kiss has the perfect grounding to step up to 1200m.

As far as the map goes, I have her landing three pairs back on the rail, and last start she showed she can accelerate along the rail to victory.

The Peter and Paul Snowden-prepared Aim and King’s Legacy loom as the biggest threats but don’t map as well.

I have Aim back near last in the run, while King’s Legacy runs the risk of getting caught deep throughout.

Farnan also worries me and is likely to get a sweet run two pairs back on the outside, but with all things being fair and equal, I have Gotta Kiss proving too strong in the 2020 Gold Coast Magic Millions 2YO Classic.
