How the 2026 Might And Power Was Won

A 60-1 chance upset the race. Ciaron Maher’s seven-year-old Land Legend, ridden by Ethan Brown from barrier 1 and carrying 59kg, held off the $1.40 favourite Sheza Alibi by a short head, with Chris Waller’s Birdman ($4.40) third. Sheza Alibi had won six of her last seven starts coming into the race, and Treasurethe Moment ($12) was fifth in a six-horse field.

What the Result Means

The Might And Power is the main weight-for-age lead-up to the Cox Plate, which is on Saturday 24 October at Flemington, so a 60-1 winner and a beaten $1.40 favourite make the Cox Plate picture harder to read.
