Brazil vs South Korea Preview & Prediction

Brazil look to bounce back from their shock loss to Cameroon when they come up against South Korea for a place in the World Cup quarter-finals on Tuesday morning AEDT.

Brazil took the opportunity to rest several key players for their final group stage game after already securing top spot – but their second string stars weren’t up to the challenge, going down 1-0.

The stars will be back on deck for this clash and Neymar might even be a chance to return from the ankle injury sustained in their opening win over Serbia.

Even without Neymar, the Brazilians have plenty of attacking talent to turn to, led by Real Madrid winger Vinicius Jr, who is averaging 2.5 shots per match so far in Qatar.

Vini Jr has scored six goals in 14 La Liga games this season and had a goal disallowed against Switzerland, so he will be itching to get on the scoresheet in the World Cup for the first time.

Meanwhile, South Korea booked their ticket to the knockout stages in remarkable fashion, upsetting Portugal 2-1, with Hwang Hee-Chan firing home the winner in the 91st minute.

South Korea then had a nervous wait as Uruguay failed to score a necessary third goal that would have sent them through.

It’s an outstanding achievement for South Korea, who became the third Asian nation to advance to the R16 after Australia and Japan.

VERDICT:

South Korea have the firepower to do some damage here, led by Tottenham star Son Heung-min, but it’s unlikely they can sustain a level high enough throughout 90 minutes to upset the World Cup favourites.

Brazil’s loss to Cameroon shouldn’t be taken seriously and they’d won nine straight before that, with six of those games seeing Over 2.5 goals. South Korea’s last two games have also produced Over 2.5 goals, as have three of the last four meetings between the nations, so that’s our best bet for this game (Best Over 2.5 goals odds $1.72 with bet365.)
