🏈 AFL Round 24 — the final home-and-away round (Fri 21 – Sun 23 Aug)
Venue: Nationwide, including Carlton v Fremantle at Marvel Stadium (Sat 22 Aug, 1.15pm AEST)
- Best Bet: The round that sets the Wildcard Round. Ladder positions 7 to 10 are the ones to watch, because in 2026 they play off for the last two finals berths.
- Why it matters more than a normal last round: 2026 is the first year of the Wildcard Round, so finishing 9th or 10th is no longer the end of the season. 7th plays 10th and 8th plays 9th during the pre-finals bye.
- Round 23 is now complete. Fremantle have the minor premiership, and two drawn games left Adelaide, Collingwood, the Western Bulldogs and Carlton filling the wildcard four (full Round 23 results and ladder). Our Round 24 preview lands midweek with the matchups and the selections.

- Best Bet: Storm v Panthers opens the round on Thursday night and is the pick of the eight on paper.
- The full slate: Storm v Panthers (Thu), Raiders v Broncos and Dolphins v Eels (Fri), Knights v Sea Eagles, Rabbitohs v Warriors and Dragons v Bulldogs (Sat), Titans v Sharks and Roosters v Wests Tigers (Sun).

🏇 Winx Stakes, Group 1 (Sat 22 Aug)
Venue: Royal Randwick, 1400m, weight-for-age
- Best Bet: The first Group 1 of the Australian season and the traditional curtain-raiser to the Sydney spring.
- Field and barriers are declared midweek, so there is no market to price yet. Our field, odds and best bets go up as soon as acceptances are out.
- Why it is worth waiting for: a weight-for-age 1400m at Randwick is the cleanest form line of the early spring, and it reads straight through to the rest of the carnival.
