All three are day-night games starting at 2:30pm AEDT. Our Australia vs England ODI tips
We could not get dated prices from our bookmakers when this preview was published on Wednesday 4 November, so these tips carry no price. Check the market before you bet.
| Market | Our tip | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Series winner | Australia | Home conditions, and Head, Marsh, Inglis, Green and Carey are all in the squad. England won one of four games in Pakistan. |
| Top England batter (1st ODI) | Ben Duckett | 167 against Sri Lanka on 29 October, and 165 the last time he faced Australia in an ODI. |
| Top Australia batter (1st ODI) | Travis Head | Opens the batting at home, and a fast Perth pitch suits his game. |
The risk with our series tip is Australia’s bowling. Without Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood, the attack is Xavier Bartlett, Spencer Johnson, Jack Edwards and the uncapped Mahli Beardman and Liam Scott, with Adam Zampa as the main spinner. England have Joe Root, Harry Brook and Duckett, plus Jofra Archer back after he was rested from the tri-series. If England make big totals in the first game, Australia’s inexperienced bowlers will be under pressure.
Squads
Australia (14): Mitchell Marsh (captain), Xavier Bartlett, Mahli Beardman, Alex Carey, Cooper Connolly, Jack Edwards, Cameron Green, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Spencer Johnson, Ollie Peake, Matt Renshaw, Liam Scott, Adam Zampa.
Pat Cummins is still formally the ODI captain but is not in the squad, and nor are Mitchell Starc or Josh Hazlewood after all three played every Test of the 2-1 series defeat in South Africa. Nathan Ellis is in the T20 squad only, after a side strain. Beardman and Peake are new to the ODI squad, and Renshaw and Green return.
England (16): Harry Brook (captain), Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson, Sonny Baker, Tom Banton, Jacob Bethell, Jordan Cox, Henry Crocombe, Sam Curran, Liam Dawson, Ben Duckett, Will Jacks, Jamie Overton, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Josh Tongue.
Archer returns after being rested for the tri-series in Pakistan, and Bethell is back from a knee injury. Jos Buttler and Saqib Mahmood miss the tour through injury.
Form and head to head
Australia swept Zimbabwe 3-0 in September, though the third game went to the last over, then lost the ODI series in South Africa 2-1. Edwards took 5 for 67 in the second ODI at the Wanderers. Our South Africa tour page has every result.
England finished third of three at the tri-series in Pakistan last month, winning one of their four games. Brook made 202 against Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi, England’s first ODI double century, and still finished on the losing side when Sri Lanka chased 430. Duckett’s 167 then gave them a 55-run win over Sri Lanka in Lahore. Pakistan won the final.
Recent meetings: Australia won the last ODI series between the sides 3-2 in England in September 2024. When the teams last met, at the Champions Trophy in Lahore in February 2025, Australia chased 352 to win by five wickets, with Josh Inglis making 120 not out after Duckett’s 165.
Venues and conditions
Perth Stadium usually has pace and bounce, which suits Australia’s quicker bowlers and batters who play square of the wicket. Adelaide Oval is one of the better batting grounds in the country, and the second ODI is the likeliest of the three to produce big totals. Bellerive Oval in Hobart can give seamers help early, and Hobart weather in November can be cool and changeable, so check the forecast before a total-runs bet.
All three are day-night games, so the side batting second faces the new ball under lights. Watch the toss for each game before betting on match totals.
Betting angles
Squad news matters more than usual. Australia have named a 14-player squad with two uncapped bowlers, and the attack may change from game to game. Wait for the teams before backing bowling markets.
Player markets are the best value. Top-batter markets reward the batters who open or bat at three. That makes Head, Marsh and Inglis for Australia and Duckett, Banton and Root for England the obvious names.
Do not ignore England in a single game. We like Australia for the series, but England’s batting can win a game on its own. If England win in Perth, the second ODI in Adelaide is a good spot to think again. Compare prices at our best cricket betting sites before you bet.
How to watch in Australia
Men’s ODIs and T20Is are not on free-to-air TV. Every match of the series is live on Fox Cricket (Foxtel) and streams on Kayo. Seven and 7plus do not show men’s white-ball internationals under Cricket Australia’s current broadcast deal.
