Barcelos edged ahead as the fight went on, leaning on his experience through the middle rounds, before Rosas Jr. came out aggressively in the fifth and slammed him to the canvas a little over a minute in. Barcelos was stretchered from the cage. How our read went: we had Rosas Jr. to win, which landed, but our angle was a decision, on the back of Barcelos going the distance in 10 of his last 12 UFC fights, and it ended in a stoppage in the final round. Hernandez, the short-notice debutant we said was hard to price, won in under a minute.

Main event: Raul Rosas Jr. vs Raoni Barcelos
Raul Rosas Jr. (13-1) is 21, ranked 12th at bantamweight and 6-1 in the UFC, with five straight wins. He is a grappler first: he holds the highest control-time percentage in UFC bantamweight history and absorbs fewer than 1.5 significant strikes a minute. This is his first main event and his first scheduled five-round fight.
Raoni Barcelos (22-5) is ranked 13th and, at 39, is almost twice Rosas Jr.’s age. He is also on a five-fight winning streak and is sound in every phase, and 10 of his last 12 UFC fights have gone the distance.
Our read. The whole fight turns on whether Rosas Jr. can take Barcelos down and keep him there, because this is the first time he has faced a seasoned grappler who also carries power on the feet. Rosas Jr. is the natural pick on youth, momentum and control, but the more useful angle is the method. Barcelos’s fights usually go the distance, and five rounds against a fighter who wins by holding position points towards a decision rather than a stoppage.
The rest of the main card
Norma Dumont vs Ailín Pérez, fourth against fifth in the women’s bantamweight rankings, is the fight with the most riding on it after the main event. Luis Hernandez makes his UFC debut on short notice against Sedriques Dumas, which makes it the hardest fight on the card to price, and short-notice debutants are rarely worth backing blind.
Both Ultimate Fighter finals are on the main card. Mehemmedeli Osmanli, 22, finished both of his fights in the competition and has 10 stoppages in 12 career wins, eight by submission. Ilimbek Akylbek, 23, won both of his on decision and trains at Valle Flow Academy in Chicago. Whoever wins becomes the youngest TUF winner since Kelvin Gastelum. In the strawweight final, Melissa Amaya stopped both of her opponents in the house, while Tina Black is the more experienced fighter, a former Invicta FC champion who has been on Dana White’s Contender Series.
