Adelaide United vs Melbourne City Preview & Prediction
Both of these teams were involved in tight games in their respective A-League openers and will be hoping for more polished performances on Sunday night.
Adelaide were held to a 0-0 stalemate by Western United to launch the season on Monday night, but the Reds were unlucky not to find the back of the net, with Tomi Juric and Ben Halloran seeing their strikes cleared off the line.
Spanish import Javi Lopez was left out of the opening game and Adelaide boss Carl Veart could rest his star signing again here, while it remains to be seen if defender George Timotheou will make his Reds debut.
Meanwhile, City were able to dig out a 1-0 win over Brisbane Roar despite being forced to play the last 30 minutes with 10 men after Adrian Luna was sent from the field.
A piece of Connor Metcalfe individual brilliance in the 52nd minute was enough for City to hold onto the win as goalkeeper Tom Glover made a number of excellent late saves.
City are now unbeaten in five of their last six A-League matches dating back to last season, with their only defeat coming in extra-time against Sydney FC in the Grand Final.
It’s a tough one to predict. Adelaide appeared disjointed for large periods against Western United, while City did well to hold on with 10 men against Brisbane. City’s team appear more settled, so I’m leaning with the away side here.
