A-League Predictions: Matchweek by Matchweek

The 2026/27 season started on Friday 16 October 2026 with the Sydney Derby at Allianz Stadium and runs across 28 matchweeks to the Grand Final. How our Matchweek 2 tips went is below, followed by our Matchweek 3 predictions, with earlier rounds kept for reference and with the full fixture list and kickoff times on our A-League fixtures and results page.

A-League Matchweek 2 Results: How Our Tips Went

A tough week for our match predictions: only one of six landed, Wellington’s 2-0 win over Central Coast. Our best bets did better, with three winners, two losers and the Melbourne Victory draw-no-bet refunded after the 1-1 Melbourne Derby. Western Sydney’s 5-2 win over Auckland was the result nobody saw coming, and Wellington are top of the ladder after two wins from two.

A-League Matchweek 3 Predictions 2026/27

Matchweek 3 runs from Friday 30 October to Sunday 1 November. Three clubs have AFC games in midweek: Newcastle in Japan on Tuesday, Melbourne Victory in Indonesia on Wednesday and Adelaide at home on Thursday. Our predictions and best bets for every game are below, with links to the full head-to-head record for each pairing. Prices are from Ladbrokes on Monday night (26 October) and will move with team news, so check them before you bet. Every match is live on Paramount+. All times AEDT.

Match Kick-off (AEDT) Prediction Best bet
Brisbane Roar v Auckland FC Friday 30 October, 8:00pm Auckland FC to win ($2.40) Under 2.5 goals ($1.83)
Newcastle Jets v Wellington Phoenix Saturday 31 October, 3:00pm Wellington Phoenix to win ($3.30) Over 2.5 goals ($1.55)
Melbourne City v Sydney FC Saturday 31 October, 5:00pm Melbourne City to win ($2.15) Melbourne City or draw ($1.33)
Macarthur FC v Western Sydney Wanderers Saturday 31 October, 7:40pm Western Sydney Wanderers to win ($2.65) Both teams to score ($1.50)
Melbourne Victory v Central Coast Mariners Sunday 1 November, 3:00pm Melbourne Victory to win ($1.44) Under 2.5 goals ($2.45)
Perth Glory v Adelaide United Sunday 1 November, 7:00pm Adelaide United to win ($2.30) Over 2.5 goals ($1.68)

Brisbane Roar v Auckland FC prediction

When: Friday 30 October, 8:00pm AEDT, Suncorp Stadium · Prediction: Auckland FC to win ($2.40) · Best bet: Under 2.5 goals ($1.83)

Brisbane have played only once, a 2-1 win over Perth in which they had 14 shots to seven and fielded seven new starters. Auckland beat Melbourne City 3-1 and then lost 5-2 at Western Sydney, conceding twice from corners. Auckland have won three of the four meetings and drawn the other, and they have conceded only once in those four games.

The goals angle is clear: none of the four meetings has had more than two goals, and both teams have scored only once. Ladbrokes had Brisbane $2.90, the draw $3.30 and Auckland $2.40 on Monday night (26 October), with under 2.5 goals at $1.83 and over at $1.95. Full record: Brisbane Roar v Auckland FC head to head. Team news: Auckland are still without Cameron Howieson (calf), Aaron Calver (ankle) and Oliver Middleton (knee); Sam Cosgrove is available and is yet to score this season. Brisbane are without Dimitri Valkanis (leg) until around December.

Newcastle Jets v Wellington Phoenix prediction

When: Saturday 31 October, 3:00pm AEDT, McDonald Jones Stadium · Prediction: Wellington Phoenix to win ($3.30) · Best bet: Over 2.5 goals ($1.55)

Wellington have won both games for the first time at the start of an A-League Men season and kept a clean sheet against Central Coast. Newcastle, last season’s Premiers, have drawn both league games and are winless in seven matches in all competitions, and they play Kyoto Sanga in Japan in the AFC Champions League Elite on Tuesday night, four days before this game.

This is one of the highest-scoring fixtures in the league: 9 of the last 10 meetings had three goals or more, and both teams scored in 8 of them. Newcastle won both meetings last season, 4-1 and 3-1, but the trip to Japan tips it towards the Phoenix. Bookmakers make Newcastle $2.00 favourites, with the draw $3.75 and Wellington $3.30 at Ladbrokes on Monday night (26 October), which we think underrates the trip to Japan. Over 2.5 goals is $1.55. Full record: Newcastle Jets v Wellington Phoenix head to head. Team news: Newcastle are without Will Kennedy (ankle), Oscar Fryer (ACL) and Max Cooper (foot); Alex Badolato returned from his ACL injury off the bench against Macarthur.

Melbourne City v Sydney FC prediction

When: Saturday 31 October, 5:00pm AEDT, AAMI Park · Prediction: Melbourne City to win ($2.15) · Best bet: Melbourne City or draw ($1.33)

It is City’s first home game of the season, and they are still looking for a first win after losing 3-1 in Auckland and drawing the Melbourne Derby 1-1. Sydney FC have conceded once in two games and came from behind to beat Adelaide 2-1, Patrick Kisnorbo’s first home win as coach. Kisnorbo won the 2021 title with City.

City have the better of this fixture by a distance: 12 wins, four draws and four defeats since 2018-19, and eight wins from ten at home. Last season’s meetings finished 0-0 and 1-0 to City. We take City with the draw as cover, because they are without striker Max Caputo. Ladbrokes had City $2.15, the draw $3.40 and Sydney $3.25 on Monday night (26 October), with City or the draw at $1.33. Full record: Melbourne City v Sydney FC head to head. Team news: City are without Caputo (hamstring), Matheus Rossetto (calf), Ben Mazzeo (ankle), Alessandro Lopane (hamstring) and Ryan Kalms (knee); Emiliano Marcondes made his debut off the bench in the derby. Sydney are without goalkeeper Gus Hoefsloot (wrist), Jake Hollman and Abel Walatee (ankle).

Macarthur FC v Western Sydney Wanderers prediction

When: Saturday 31 October, 7:40pm AEDT, Campbelltown Sports Stadium · Prediction: Western Sydney Wanderers to win ($2.65) · Best bet: Both teams to score ($1.50)

Two of the in-form sides. Western Sydney scored five against Auckland with five different scorers for Ufuk Talay’s first win, and Macarthur have taken four points from losing positions, with late goals against Perth and a second-half equaliser at Newcastle. Both are on four points.

Home advantage has counted for very little here: Macarthur have won only two of nine home games against the Wanderers since 2018-19, and the Wanderers won 4-0 away at Macarthur last season. Both teams have scored in 8 of the last 10 meetings. Ladbrokes had Macarthur $2.40, the draw $3.60 and the Wanderers $2.65 on Monday night (26 October), with both teams to score at $1.50. Full record: Macarthur FC v Western Sydney Wanderers head to head. Team news: the Wanderers are without Awan Lual (hamstring) for about six weeks, but captain Brandon Borrello is back and scored against Auckland. Macarthur were without Kai Kennedy, James Hilton and Will McKay in Matchweek 1.

Melbourne Victory v Central Coast Mariners prediction

When: Sunday 1 November, 3:00pm AEDT, AAMI Park · Prediction: Melbourne Victory to win ($1.44) · Best bet: Under 2.5 goals ($2.45)

Victory have scored first in both games but have one point, and Giovanni Savarese called the derby draw “two points dropped”. They play Persib Bandung in Indonesia in the AFC Champions League Two on Wednesday night, with heavy rotation planned, so this is their third game in about eight days. Central Coast have one point, and both of their league goals this season were penalties.

Victory have won six of their nine home games against the Mariners since 2018-19. The meetings are not high-scoring: only 4 of the last 10 had three goals or more, and the Mariners are yet to score from open play this season. Ladbrokes had Victory $1.44, the draw $4.60 and the Mariners $6.50 on Monday night (26 October). Over 2.5 goals is the favourite at $1.53, so the under at $2.45 is the value side. Full record: Melbourne Victory v Central Coast Mariners head to head. Team news: Victory’s Joshua Inserra is a doubt with a back injury and Louis D’Arrigo is out. Central Coast are without Trent Sainsbury, and Taiyo Hisamatsu is waiting on a visa.

Perth Glory v Adelaide United prediction

When: Sunday 1 November, 7:00pm AEDT (4:00pm in Perth), HBF Park · Prediction: Adelaide United to win ($2.30) · Best bet: Over 2.5 goals ($1.68)

Perth are bottom without a point and had one shot on target at Brisbane. Adelaide lost their only league game 2-1 at Sydney FC but have won both of their AFC Champions League Two group games, and they play Lion City Sailors at home on Thursday night before flying to Perth, their third game in seven days.

Adelaide won both meetings last season, 4-0 and 1-0, and Perth have won only four of their ten home games against them since 2018-19. Seven of the last 10 meetings had three goals or more. Ladbrokes had Perth $2.80, the draw $3.60 and Adelaide $2.30 on Monday night (26 October), with over 2.5 goals at $1.68. Full record: Perth Glory v Adelaide United head to head. Team news: Perth are without Calem Nieuwenhof, Matt Dench (foot), Charbel Shamoon (foot) and Brian Kaltak (knee), with Henry Hore a doubt; Jay O’Shea made his debut off the bench at Brisbane. Adelaide were without Bart Vriends, Jake Najdovski, Dylan Pierias, Jacob Brazete, Ryan White and Mitchell Smith at Sydney.

Brisbane Roar v Perth Glory prediction

When: Friday 23 October, 8:00pm AEDT, Suncorp Stadium · Prediction: Perth Glory to win · Best bet: Both teams to score

Brisbane play their first game of the season, after their Matchweek 1 trip to Adelaide was moved to December, and they have a largely new squad. Perth were the better side for long periods at Macarthur last week and lost 2-1 to a late, retaken penalty. The two finished 10th and 11th last season, and they split their three meetings: a win each and a draw.

The goals angle is the strong one. Both teams have scored in 9 of the last 10 meetings, and 8 of those 10 had three goals or more. Bookmakers have Brisbane slight favourites, with the draw at $3.50 and Perth or the draw at $1.70. Full record: Brisbane Roar v Perth Glory head to head. Team news: Perth are without Brian Kaltak, and Tom Lawrence, who scored at Macarthur, is expected to start. Brisbane are expected to line up 3-5-2.

Newcastle Jets v Macarthur FC prediction

When: Saturday 24 October, 3:00pm AEDT, McDonald Jones Stadium · Prediction: Newcastle Jets to win · Best bet: Over 2.5 goals

Newcastle finished top of the ladder last season and opened this one with a 2-2 draw in the F3 Derby. Macarthur won 2-1 against Perth and finished seventh last season, but they won two of last season’s three meetings, 3-2 and 5-4, with Newcastle winning the other 1-0.

This fixture produces goals: 7 of the last 10 meetings had three or more, including 3-3, 3-2 and that 5-4. Macarthur are $3.15 to win, with Macarthur or the draw at $1.77. Full record: Newcastle Jets v Macarthur FC head to head. Team news: Newcastle are still without Badolato and Fryer (ACL), Will Kennedy (ankle) and Max Cooper (foot), but Zach Clough is back in the squad. Macarthur are missing Kai Kennedy, James Hilton and Will McKay.

Western Sydney Wanderers v Auckland FC prediction

When: Saturday 24 October, 5:00pm AEDT, CommBank Stadium · Prediction: Auckland FC to win · Best bet: Under 2.5 goals

The champions began their title defence with a 3-1 win over Melbourne City. The Wanderers finished last last season, and their 0-0 in the Sydney Derby was a defensive improvement under new coach Ufuk Talay. Auckland have won three of the four meetings and drawn the other.

None of the four meetings has had more than two goals, and the Wanderers have scored once in them. A tight Auckland win is the most likely result. Full record: Western Sydney Wanderers v Auckland FC head to head. Team news: Auckland are without Cam Howieson (calf), Aaron Calver (ankle) and Oliver Middleton (knee).

Melbourne Victory v Melbourne City prediction

When: Saturday 24 October, 7:40pm AEDT, AAMI Park · Prediction: Melbourne Victory to win · Best bet: Melbourne Victory, draw no bet

Both sides lost in Matchweek 1, Victory 2-1 in Wellington and City 3-1 in Auckland. Victory finished fourth last season and City sixth, and Victory won two of the three derbies, both of them at City.

Ten of the 24 derbies since 2018-19 have been draws, so we take Victory with the draw as insurance. City have the longer injury list. Full record: Melbourne Victory v Melbourne City head to head. Team news: City are without Matheus Rossetto (calf), Emiliano Marcondes (ankle), Ben Mazzeo (ankle), Alessandro Lopane (hamstring) and Ryan Kalms (knee). Victory are missing Louis D’Arrigo.

Wellington Phoenix v Central Coast Mariners prediction

When: Sunday 25 October, 1:00pm AEDT, Hnry Stadium · Prediction: Wellington Phoenix to win · Best bet: Wellington Phoenix, draw no bet

The Phoenix beat Melbourne Victory 2-1 at home last week, and they lead this fixture 10 wins to 4 since 2018-19, with five draws. Last season’s meetings finished 1-1 and 3-1 to Wellington. The Mariners twice led the F3 Derby before drawing 2-2.

Home advantage counts for Wellington, but the Mariners scored twice last week, so we take the Phoenix with the draw as insurance. Full record: Wellington Phoenix v Central Coast Mariners head to head. Team news: Central Coast are without Trent Sainsbury, and Taiyo Hisamatsu is waiting on a visa.

Sydney FC v Adelaide United prediction

When: Sunday 25 October, 3:00pm AEDT, Allianz Stadium · Prediction: Draw · Best bet: Over 2.5 goals

Adelaide play their first game of the season after their Matchweek 1 game against Brisbane was moved to December. They finished second last season and beat Sydney 2-1 in both meetings. Sydney, fifth last season, opened with a 0-0 in the Sydney Derby.

The goals trend is as strong as any in the league: both teams have scored in all of the last 10 meetings, and 9 of them had three goals or more. Full record: Sydney FC v Adelaide United head to head. Team news: Sydney FC are without goalkeeper Gus Hoefsloot (wrist), Jacob Farrell (groin) and Abel Walatee (ankle).

The Sydney Derby finished 0-0, Auckland FC started their title defence with a 3-1 win over Melbourne City, and Wellington Phoenix beat Melbourne Victory 2-1 in Wellington.

Sydney FC v Western Sydney Wanderers prediction

When: Friday 16 October, 8:00pm AEDT, Allianz Stadium · Prediction: Sydney FC to win · Best bet: Both teams to score

The first Sydney Derby to open a season, and Ufuk Talay’s first game in charge of the Wanderers against the club he used to coach. On last season the gap is wide: Sydney FC finished fifth and the Wanderers last, with five wins from 26. Sydney have won the last two derbies and lead the fixture 12-5-8 since 2018-19, and they reached the Australia Cup semi-finals this winter, where Melbourne Victory beat them 2-0.

The goals angle is stronger than the result. Both teams scored in 7 of the last 10 derbies, including the 3-3 in 2025 and the 4-1 last season, and a new coach usually means a more open Wanderers side rather than a tighter one. Full record: Sydney FC v Western Sydney Wanderers head to head. Team news: Sydney FC are without goalkeeper Gus Hoefsloot (wrist), Jacob Farrell (groin) and Abel Walatee (ankle), and Harrison Devenish-Meares and Victor Campuzano are both still recovering from surgery, so new signing Oriola Sunday is set to lead the line. Brandon Borrello captains the Wanderers in Ufuk Talay’s first game in charge.

Auckland FC v Melbourne City prediction

When: Saturday 17 October, 3:00pm AEDT (5:00pm NZDT), Go Media Stadium · Prediction: Auckland FC to win · Best bet: Over 2.5 goals

The champions start their defence at home under a new coach, Pedro Moreira, after Steve Corica left for Yokohama F. Marinos. Auckland have also lost Guillermo May to Melbourne Victory. Even so, the home side has won three of the four meetings between these clubs, Auckland lead the head-to-head 2-1-1, and they beat City 3-0 at home last season.

All four meetings have gone over 2.5 goals, at an average of 3.25 a game. Four is a small sample, but it is the cleanest trend in the round. Full record: Auckland FC v Melbourne City head to head.

Macarthur FC v Perth Glory prediction

When: Saturday 17 October, 5:00pm AEDT, Campbelltown Sports Stadium · Prediction: Macarthur FC to win · Best bet: Both teams to score

Former Socceroo Sasa Ognenovski takes charge of Macarthur for the first time after replacing Mile Sterjovski. Macarthur finished seventh last season and Perth tenth, and Macarthur lead the fixture 6-4-4 since 2020-21. The caution is recent form: Perth were unbeaten in last season’s three meetings, with two wins and a 2-2 draw at Campbelltown, and Perth went out of the Australia Cup in the Round of 32, beaten on penalties by Lions FC.

Both teams have scored in 57% of meetings, and the fixture averages 3.14 goals a game. That is a firmer read than the result. Full record: Macarthur FC v Perth Glory head to head.

Central Coast Mariners v Newcastle Jets prediction

When: Saturday 17 October, 7:40pm AEDT, Polytec Stadium · Prediction: Newcastle Jets to win · Best bet: Newcastle Jets, draw no bet

The F3 Derby, and the premiers against a side that finished ninth. Newcastle took the Premiers’ Plate by five points last season. The Mariners lead this fixture 13-4-7 since 2018-19, but home advantage is unusually weak here: the host has won only 9 of 24 meetings. Both clubs went out of the Australia Cup in the Round of 32 to NPL sides, so neither has a cup run to show for the winter.

John Hutchinson is now in charge of the Mariners. With a draw in the most recent meeting and the derby’s history of tight games, draw no bet protects the stake on the side we rate higher. Full record: Central Coast Mariners v Newcastle Jets head to head.

Wellington Phoenix v Melbourne Victory prediction

When: Sunday 18 October, 1:00pm AEDT (3:00pm NZDT), Hnry Stadium · Prediction: Draw · Best bet: Wellington Phoenix or draw (double chance)

On paper Victory are the stronger side: fourth last season to Wellington’s eighth, and strengthened over the winter under new coach Giovanni Savarese. The schedule is the problem. Victory played 120 minutes in the Australia Cup final last Saturday, losing on penalties to South Melbourne, have an AFC Champions League Two match against FC Seoul on Wednesday, and then fly to Wellington for a Sunday afternoon kick-off.

This is also the most drawn fixture in the round: 8 of the 23 meetings since 2018-19 have finished level (35%), and Wellington won the last one 1-0 in Melbourne. A tired Victory away from home is the spot to take the home side with the draw covered. Full record: Wellington Phoenix v Melbourne Victory head to head.

The round in one line. New coaches at five clubs, a Victory side on its third game in nine days and a Wanderers team that finished last make this an opening round to read on goals and context more than on last season’s ladder. How We Make Our A-League Predictions

Every prediction starts with the head-to-head record. Our A-League head-to-head records cover all 66 matchups with the full competitive record since 2018-19, the last 10 meetings and the trends that repeat in each fixture, including draw rate, both-teams-to-score frequency and how much home advantage actually counts.

From there we weigh current form, team news, travel and the ladder context. The A-League is a competitive league where roughly a quarter of matches finish level, so the draw is a live outcome far more often than a two-way read suggests.
