Sydney FC vs Western Sydney Wanderers Preview & Prediction

Another fiery Sydney derby is in prospect as Sydney FC and the Wanderers collide at Allianz Stadium on Saturday night in A-League Round 5 action.

Sydney put together a successful preseason, winning the Australia Cup final over Brisbane, but they suffered a hangover from that triumph, losing their opening three games of the season without scoring a single goal against Victory, Roar and City.

However, they bounced back strongly before the break after sacking manager Steve Corica, thumping Adelaide United 5-1 on the road.

Joe Lolley and Jayden Kucharski both bagged a brace, while Fabio Gomes scored his maiden A-League goal in the demolition job at Coopers.

Meanwhile, the Wanderers remain unbeaten after four games, crushing Western United 5-0 and easing past Perth 2-0, alongside draws against Wellington and Newcastle.

It’s been a good start to the season for the Wanderers, but this is the match they would have circled and they’ve had ample time to prepare during the break.

The Wanderers have won their last two trips to Allianz Stadium, while the last six Sydney derbies have been split at three wins apiece.

VERDICT:

The Wanderers look the value in the H2H market – they’ve had a much better start to the season and won’t be intimidated by Allianz Stadium having won the last two meetings between the teams at the venue.

There’s also good value in backing only one team to score. These Sydney derbies are traditionally cagey affairs and only one team has scored in six of the last eight meetings (Best BTTS – No odds $2.50 with bet365.)
