Sydney FC vs Western Sydney Wanderers Preview & Prediction
Another chapter of the Sydney derby will be written at Jubilee Oval on Saturday night as the Wanderers and Sydney FC collide.
Both teams are frantically pursuing a finals spot, but neither is in a strong position. Sydney are in seventh spot and have played more games than all of their rivals, while the Wanderers are down in 10th and five points adrift.
Both sides have lost more games than they’ve won, so they can’t have any complaints. It simply hasn’t been a good season for either team.
Sydney FC looked to be turning a corner after back-to-back wins to nil over Perth and Western United, but then they lost 2-0 to an understrength Jets side before a 2-2 draw with Macarthur.
Meanwhile, the Wanderers are unbeaten in their last three fixtures, but have only managed one win over Adelaide, drawing 0-0 with the Reds days later before a last-start 1-1 stalemate with Melbourne Victory.
Such is the nature of the A-League this season, both sides are still well within the finals picture, but they need to string some wins together soon.
VERDICT:
Neither side inspires much confidence here. Sydney haven’t been able to get going all season, while the Wanderers have repeatedly failed to deliver on their potential for a few years now.
Under 2.5 goals has landed in eight of the last nine meetings, so that’s our best bet for Saturday’s derby (Best under 2.5 goals odds $1.95 with Palmerbet.)
