Central Coast Mariners vs Brisbane Roar Preview & Prediction

The Mariners are aiming for their first win since being crowned premiers last season when they play host to the Roar on Sunday in Gosford.

It was always going to be a tough ask for the Mariners to back up their outstanding achievements from last season, with several key players and their coach departing the club.

Unsurprisingly, Central Coast have struggled to open the campaign, losing all three of their games against Adelaide, Macarthur and Perth.

The Mariners do have winning momentum heading into this encounter though, coming away with a 2-1 win on the road to Bali United in the AFC Cup mid-week.

Meanwhile, the Roar have been tough to get a read on in their three games of the season so far after falling in the Australia Cup final to Sydney FC in preseason.

Brisbane managed to avenge that defeat with a crushing 3-0 victory over the Sky Blues at home, but they’ve also drawn 1-1 with Macarthur and lost 5-2 on the road against Wellington.

Can’t back the Mariners as favourites on current form, but also don’t trust Brisbane on the road.

The Roar have managed to score in every game so far this season, including two on the road last week vs Wellington, so they should be able to at least find the back of the net, while you’d think Central Coast can score at home, especially considering they’ve won the last four meetings.
