Melbourne City vs Central Coast Mariners Preview & Prediction

Melbourne City will be aiming to extend their undefeated streak to 10 matches when they come up against a slumping Central Coast Mariners side on Saturday night at AAMI Park.

City have been the competition’s stand-out side all season and currently enjoy a seven-point lead at the top of the ladder with a game in hand over second-placed Sydney FC.

With 14 wins from their 22 games, City have won four more games than the next best sides, while Jamie Maclaren has been in sizzling form, scoring 25 goals for the season to lock down the Golden Boot.

City have scored a total of 54 goals and have fired home 15 in their last five games – four of which were victories.

City are coming off a 2-2 draw in their last outing against Wellington however and will want to return to the winners circle immediately here.

Meanwhile, the Mariners are tailing off rather worryingly after a superb start to the season, with the team winning just two of their last 11 matches.

One of those wins came last week against the last-placed Newcastle Jets, but the Mariners needed a fortuitous penalty to claim all three points.

Needless to say, they need significant improvement if they are to trouble the A-League’s best side on enemy soil.

City are firing on all cylinders and have won four of the last five games between the sides – expect another entertaining and high scoring game with City coming out on top again.
