Newcastle Jets vs Brisbane Roar Preview & Prediction
Newcastle Jets are staring down the barrel of 14 games without a win when they come up against Brisbane Roar on Friday night.
It’s been a nightmare season for the Jets as they battle with Melbourne Victory to avoid the wooden spoon.
Newcastle have won just three of their 22 games and are currently on a 13-game winless streak with 10 defeats during that period.
It’s one of the worst runs in the club’s history and unfortunately for the Jets, there’s no indication they’ll be able to turn things around in their remaining games of the season.
The Jets simply don’t have a squad capable of challenging in the A-League at the moment, with financial troubles at the club certainly not helping in that regard.
Newcastle are coming off a 1-0 loss to the Mariners last week in which they were somewhat unlucky to concede a second-half penalty.
Meanwhile, this is an absolute must-win clash for Brisbane, who are clinging on to sixth position after last week’s loss to Adelaide.
The fight for a finals spot is heating up with just three points separating sixth and 10th on the ladder. This is simply the type of game Brisbane have to win if they’re serious about making an impact at the business end of the season.
The Roar will need to snap a three-game winless run where they’ve failed to score in their last two matches if they’re going to prevail here.
Fortunately for Brisbane, they are up against one of the competition’s most fragile defences. Newcastle have conceded at least once in their last 13 matches and don’t have the attack to make up that difference.
The Roar should have no trouble in returning to the winners circle on Friday night.
