Zverev breaks his Grand Slam duck
At 29, Zverev had carried the unwanted tag of the best player never to win a major — the eighth man in the Open Era to lose each of his first three Grand Slam finals (to Dominic Thiem at the 2020 US Open, Carlos Alcaraz at the 2024 French Open and Jannik Sinner at the 2025 Australian Open). When Cobolli’s final forehand drifted long, the second seed sank to the Chatrier clay in tears. He becomes the seventh-oldest man in tennis history to win his first major.
The path opened up for him: with Sinner stunned early and Alcaraz absent, Zverev was the clear class of a blown-open draw — and after a four-set semi-final win over Jakub Menšík, he held his nerve in a final that briefly threatened to slip away.
French Open 2026 men’s final — result
Zverev raced through the opener, lost his way as Cobolli levelled, then regained control in the third. The fearless Italian forced a decider by edging a fourth-set tie-break, but Zverev reset immediately and stormed the fifth to close it out.

Cobolli’s lone tie-break was his one moment of daylight in a match Zverev otherwise dictated.
Did the favourite deliver for punters?
Yes. We made Zverev the title call in our Bets of the Week and ran him as a leg in the Weekend Mega Multi, flagging Cobolli as the each-way value at a much bigger price — and the final played out exactly that way, with the two outsiders of a blown-open draw contesting the title. What’s next: Wimbledon 2026
The tour now swaps clay for grass. Zverev will arrive at the All England Club as a maiden major champion finally free of the “best to never win one” tag — we’ll have full coverage in our Wimbledon betting tips, with the US Open the next hard-court major after that.
