How the Final Unfolded

For a set, the underdog delivered. Zverev served enormous — he would finish with 17 aces, several clocked around 139mph — and edged a tense opening-set tiebreak 9-7 to stun the favourite and quiet Centre Court.

That was as good as it got for the German. Sinner steadied, cranked up the return pressure and took the second-set tiebreak 7-2 to level the match. Once ahead, the world No.1 was relentless: he broke early in the third and never looked back, closing out the set 6-3 and then the fourth 6-4. When his forehand winner landed on Championship point, Sinner sank flat onto his back on the grass.

The numbers told the story of a champion’s control: 58 winners to 49 and just 25 unforced errors to Zverev’s 45. Zverev’s serve kept him in it — he out-aced Sinner 17-15 — but from a set down, the Italian’s consistency and depth off both wings simply wore him down. “There’s no better place to play tennis,” Sinner said with the trophy in hand.

Jannik Sinner’s Road to the Title

A first-round scare aside, Sinner dropped only two sets on his way to the trophy — and produced the performance of the fortnight to dismantle Novak Djokovic in the semis.

What It Means

  • It is Sinner’s fifth Grand Slam title and his second consecutive Wimbledon — the first man to defend the title here since the Djokovic era.
  • The win was also his 100th career match victory at Grand Slam level, underlining his dominance at the majors.
  • He extends a remarkable head-to-head hold over Zverev to 11–4, and cemented his place as the world’s clear No.1.
  • For Zverev, the Roland Garros champion, it is a first Wimbledon final and another near-miss at a second major — but his serve and run to the final confirm his place among the very best on grass.
