Australia vs New Zealand Preview & Prediction

Australia and New Zealand collide for the second straight week, this time with the Pacific Championships title on the line when they clash in Hamilton on Saturday.

The Kangaroos outclassed the Kiwis in Melbourne last week, cruising to a 36-18 victory as prop Lindsay Collins crossed for his first career try double.

Mal Meninga has now won all of his home Test matches since taking charge, while Australia have prevailed in 24 of their last 26 Tests, scoring 30+ points in seven of their last eight.

Valentine Holmes scored 16 points in last week’s win, while key forwards Payne Haas and Tino Fa’asuamaleaui return after being rested. Nacho Hynes drops to 18th man and Liam Martin is also back in the starting side.

Meanwhile, New Zealand should put up a bigger fight in front of what is sure to be an electric home crowd, but the fact remains they’ve only won one of their last eight Tests against their biggest rivals.

Michael Maguire has resisted temptation to move Joey Manu to fullback, with the Roosters gun remaining in the centres and Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad staying in the No. 1 jersey.

VERDICT:

Always tempting to back the Kiwis at home, but Australia are simply a class above and they proved it yet again last week.

Not much value in backing the Kangaroos and it could easily be a close game, so even the 12.5 line looks nervy.
