It’s shaping as another mouth-watering fortnight of Australian Open tennis as Novak Djokovic chases history and Ashleigh Barty targets a third major title and first on home soil.

Djokovic, who has won the last three Australian Opens and nine overall, is gunning for a record 21st Grand Slam singles title. If successful, Djokovic will overtake Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, with all three currently equal on 20.

Among the leading challengers to Djokovic’s Australian Open throne is Daniil Medvedev, who went down to the Serbian in last year’s final but got his revenge in a straight sets thumping in the US Open final at the end of 2021.

Alexander Zverev will also fancy his chances of a maiden major title after defeating Djokovic and Medvedev en route to the season-ending ATP Finals title in Turin.

Meanwhile, the women’s field looks as unpredictable as ever, with Naomi Osaka returning after a difficult 2021 to defend her title.

Barty will be determined for success on home soil after claiming the Wimbledon title last year, while the likes of Garbine Muguruza and Anett Kontaveit will be hoping their blistering finishes to 2021 will translate into early-2022 glory.
