Richmond vs Essendon Preview

Damien Hardwick’s side has bounced back from their Round 6 loss against the reigning premiers by winning three matches on the trot against West Coast (109 points), Collingwood (27 points) and most recently Hawthorn (23 points).

Most importantly, they have kicked their three largest scores this season in those matches. Tom Lynch has been a big reason for that, with 17 goals in his last three games to jump him on top of the Coleman Medal standings.

Meanwhile, the Bomber’s efforts were questioned yet again this season in their embarrassing defeat against the Swans. They have been one of the worst sides defensively this season, conceding more than 90 points in eight of their nine matches this campaign.

Essendon will have to break a run of 11 consecutive losses against Richmond if they are to get the four points. It’s now or never for them to break that streak and turn their horror start to the season around.

Although I do believe Ben Rutten’s side will show some signs of improvement on the big stage on Saturday night, I don’t feel it will be enough to warrant them getting a much-needed four points against the in-form Tigers.
