St Kilda vs Melbourne Preview
The Round 17 encounter places the 4th placed Melbourne side against St Kilda, who are 6th on the ladder. Both sides have won nine of their 15 games this season.
St Kilda overcame a 24-point half-time deficit against West Coast in Round 16 to overcome the bottom-placed side by eight points at Optus Stadium. That came on the back of four goals from impressive youngster, Mitch Owens, while Rowan Marshall dominated in the ruck. Jack Sinclair chalked up another 30 disposals.
Melbourne also racked up some miles in Round 16, travelling to a wet Alice Springs. However, the Demons failed to come home with the points, going down in a tight one to GWS by two points. That came despite the efforts of Jack Viney (41 disposals) and Christian Petracca (31).
The Demons registered just five goals for the game, making it four games in a row where they have booted eight goals or less. Goals could be hard to come by in this game with the two sides ranking 2nd and 3rd for fewest points conceded. St Kilda have a slightly better record at scoring in recent times but will need more from Max King, who has kicked just one goals in his past two games.
Melbourne will have to do it without Bailey Fritsch, who is set to miss a large chunk of time with a foot injury, while Clayton Oliver’s much hyped comeback remains in doubt. Oliver’s presence in this game could shape the result as there doesn’t seem to be too much separating the two sides.
