Min Woo Lee is Australia’s most marketable golfer and, on current form, one of its best. The 28-year-old from Perth has five professional wins including the 2021 Scottish Open and the 2023 Australian PGA Championship, broke through on the PGA Tour at the 2025 Houston Open, and has just qualified automatically for the International Team at the Presidents Cup. The 2026 season
No wins, but the most consistent year of his career: five top-ten finishes including runner-up at Pebble Beach in February and runner-up again at the Scottish Open, the event he won in 2021. Those two results carried him into the FedExCup Playoffs and to a first Tour Championship.
East Lake was the highlight. He opened with a bogey-free 62 to take the outright lead, a round that tied his career low, and finished tied fourth at 11 under as Scottie Scheffler took a second FedExCup. For a player whose reputation has sometimes run ahead of his results, leading the season finale after eighteen holes was the answer to a fair question.
The majors were the other story. He missed the cut at both the Masters, with rounds of 78 and 77, and the US Open at Shinnecock Hills. He was tied 18th at the PGA Championship at Aronimink after briefly leading the first round, and he made the weekend at The Open at Royal Birkdale with a birdie at the last on Friday. His best major finish remains a tied fifth at the 2023 US Open.
The Lee family
His sister Minjee Lee is the more decorated golfer of the two: three major championships, the 2021 Evian, the 2022 US Women’s Open and the 2025 KPMG Women’s PGA, eleven LPGA Tour wins and a career-high world ranking of three. Their parents emigrated from South Korea to Australia in the early 1990s.
When Min Woo won the 2016 US Junior Amateur, four years after Minjee won the US Girls’ Junior, they became the first brother and sister to each win a USGA junior title. Both represented Australia at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where he finished tied 22nd, the first Australian sibling pair in Olympic golf.
Let him cook
The nickname is why a golfer with one PGA Tour win has the profile of a multiple major champion. “Let him cook” came out of gaming culture, Lee adopted it, and he won the 2023 Australian PGA and collected the trophy wearing a chef’s hat. It has spawned an entire persona, and it is the reason he is one of the sport’s genuine marketing assets rather than simply a good player.
For the punter, the relevant part is that he is a long hitter who is at his best on courses that reward it, and that his scoring is streaky: the 62 at East Lake and the 78 at Augusta arrived in the same season. He is a better each-way proposition than a favourite, and a better first-round-leader play than most.
Team golf
He made his Presidents Cup debut in 2024 at Royal Montreal as a captain’s pick, going nought and one with one halved match. For 2026 he did not need a pick: he qualified automatically inside the top six for the International Team, and joins Adam Scott as one of two Australians in the side. The matches are at Medinah Country Club in Illinois from 24 to 27 September.
