Guest House started the $2.45 favourite and ran sixth, 5.55 lengths from the winner, and the trip question this preview raised cut the other way: Warwoven, also untried beyond 1200m, handled the 1400m best. Lead-In Races
The main lead-ins are the Group 3 Up and Coming Stakes (1300m) and the Group 3 Run To The Rose (1200m), both at Rosehill. Many 3YOs use this three-race progression heading into the Golden Rose.
2026 lead-up form. The Group 2 Run To The Rose was run at Rosehill over 1200m on 12 September and went to Warwoven ($8.00, Rachel King, Bjorn Baker), who beat the short-priced favourite ST Gotthard ($2.60, James McDonald, Chris Waller) with Under Focus ($6.00) third. On the same card the Group 3 Ming Dynasty Quality over 1400m went to Persian Wonder ($19.00, Ashley Morgan, David Payne) from Stormy Marco ($8.00) and Tenenbaum ($4.80).
Both lead-ups beat their favourite, and in the Run To The Rose the beaten favourite was unbeaten going in. That is worth holding onto: the Golden Rose is run over 1400m rather than the Run To The Rose’s 1200m, so a colt that was doing its best work late at Rosehill a fortnight ago is better placed than the bare result suggests.

Castillo King was scratched, leaving twelve runners, and Chris Waller had five of them. The Ming Dynasty winner Persian Wonder is not in the field.
Our best bet
Guest House (barrier 5). He is the Golden Slipper winner, and the way he won it matters here: he was eleventh at the 400m and ran through the field to win by 1.37 lengths, which is the profile of a colt who wants further than 1200m. He won the San Domenico Stakes at Rosehill last start, is two from two at the track, is the highest-rated horse in the race and won the Slipper on a Soft 5 surface like the one he is likely to get on Saturday.
The honest caveat is the one the market is also weighing: he has never raced beyond 1200m. Neither have Warwoven or St Gotthard, the first two in the Run To The Rose. That makes the trip the central question of the race rather than a footnote.
Each-way value: Campione D’Italia (barrier 7). If you would rather not take the 1400m on trust, he is the one top-rated runner already proven beyond it. He ran second as favourite in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes over 1600m in April, beaten a quarter of a length, and has won two of his four starts on soft ground.
