Demons to win by 1-39 points
Melbourne will host Richmond on Thursday night at the MCG, with both sides coming off surprise Round 6 wins — the Demons upset Fremantle, while the Tigers handed Gold Coast their first loss of the season. It’s hard to know exactly what version of each team will show up, but recent history is telling: Richmond haven’t beaten Melbourne in four years. We’re backing the Demons to keep that streak alive with a well-earned win.
Collingwood vs Essendon
Pies to win with -28.5 handicap
New ladder leaders Collingwood will host Essendon at the MCG on Friday afternoon. The Pies haven’t lost since the opening round and are riding a five-match unbeaten streak, taking down some big-name opponents along the way. Essendon are in good form themselves with three wins on the bounce, but we’re backing the Pies to bring the Bombers back down to earth — and by a decent margin.
Fremantle vs Adelaide
Dockers to win by 1-39 points
Adelaide head west to Optus Stadium in Round 7 for what shapes as one of the tightest contests of the weekend. Both sides are still looking to find the consistency needed to push into flag contention — the Crows sit at 4–2, while the Dockers are at 3–3. These two have a history of close encounters, and we’re tipping Fremantle to edge a narrow win at home.
St Kilda vs Brisbane
Lions to win with 14.5 handicap
St Kilda and Brisbane face off at Marvel Stadium in Round 7, both looking to rebound from tough losses over Easter weekend. However, the Lions’ defeat to Collingwood was their first of the season, and we’re confident they’ll respond emphatically against a 3–3 Saints side still trying to find their rhythm.
Port Adelaide vs North Melbourne
The Power to win by 40+ points
Port Adelaide will host a beleaguered North Melbourne side at Adelaide Oval on Saturday afternoon during Round 7. The Kangaroos have stumbled to a 1–5 record and show little sign of turning things around, with issues across the park for Alastair Clarkson’s men. The Power, fresh off a solid win over Sydney, should have no trouble piling more misery on the Roos.
GWS Giants vs Western Bulldogs
Giants to win with -12.5 handicap
The GWS Giants return to the Sydney Showground in Round 7, where they’ll host the Western Bulldogs on Saturday evening. The Giants managed just 34 points against the Crows in Round 6 and will be eager to respond in front of their home fans. The Bulldogs, meanwhile, have blown hot and cold so far this season, and we’re tipping the Giants to get the job done with a bit of breathing room.
Gold Coast vs Sydney
Suns to win by 1-39 points
All eyes will be on Gold Coast in Round 7 as the Suns host Sydney at Heritage Bank Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Damien Hardwick’s men were stunned by a struggling Richmond outfit in Round 6, but we’re tipping them to bounce back against a Swans side who have now suffered back-to-back defeats. Expect a tight contest, but one the Suns can edge at home.
Carlton vs Geelong
Cats to win by 1-39 points
Carlton have steadied the ship in recent weeks with back-to-back wins and will be eyeing a third straight victory when they host Geelong at Marvel Stadium on Sunday afternoon. However, they face a Cats side that look like the full package, even if their ladder position doesn’t quite reflect it yet. We’re backing Geelong, buoyed by a big win against Hawthorn, to flex their muscles and record the win.
Hawthorn vs West Coast
Hawks to win by 40+ points
Hawthorn will host a winless West Coast side at the MCG in the final game of Round 7 on late Sunday afternoon. The Eagles came agonisingly close to their first win of the season in Round 6, falling short by just two points against Essendon. However, we don’t see them being as competitive here, even against a Hawks side on back-to-back defeats. Expect the Hawks to end this mini-slump with a big win.
