Essendon vs North Melbourne
Bombers to win by 1-39 points
Essendon and North Melbourne will kick off Round 8 when the Bombers host the Kangaroos at Marvel Stadium on Thursday night. Both sides are coming off Round 7 defeats, but the Bombers’ loss to Collingwood snapped an impressive run of three straight wins. We’re backing Brad Scott’s men to bounce back against a Roos side that’s now dropped five in a row.
St Kilda vs Fremantle
Dockers to win and total points under 175.5
A struggling St Kilda will host Fremantle at Marvel Stadium on Friday night. The Saints have slumped to three heavy defeats in a row, with a 45-point Round 7 loss to Brisbane the latest body blow. We’re expecting a Dockers side with four wins from their last five to capitalise on the Saints’ mini-slump in a low-scoring game.
Western Bulldogs vs Port Adelaide
Bulldogs to win by 1-39 points
The Western Bulldogs and Port Adelaide will go head-to-head at Marvel Stadium on Saturday afternoon. This Round 8 clash features two sides in good form and starting to build top-eight aspirations. However, we think the Dogs will benefit from being at home and hand the Power their first defeat in four games.
Adelaide vs Carlton
Crows to win and total points under 173.5
Carlton head west to Adelaide Oval in Round 8 to take on Adelaide on Saturday afternoon. The Crows have lost their way of late, dropping three of their last four, while the Blues have surged from the bottom of the ladder to within striking distance of the top eight. Despite the Blues’ upturn in form, we’re expecting a close game and for the Crows to snap out of their current rut at home.
Collingwood vs Geelong
Pies to win with -8.5 handicap
Geelong are the latest side tasked with trying to halt Collingwood’s juggernaut when they square off at the MCG on Saturday night. The Pies have stormed to six straight wins to sit atop the ladder while the Cats are coming off a surprise defeat to Carlton. Geelong should rally for this, but Collingwood’s momentum is hard to ignore — we’re backing the Pies to make it seven in a row and cover the line.
West Coast vs Melbourne
Demons to win by 40+ points
West Coast will host Melbourne on Saturday evening at Optus Stadium in Round 8. After a worrying start, the Demons have shown signs of life of late, winning back-to-back games to bring their record to 2-5. By contrast, the Eagles are set for the wooden spoon, having lost all seven of their games this season. We can’t see that first win coming just yet and expect the Demons to continue resurrecting their season with a comfortable win.
Sydney vs GWS Giants
Swans to win by 1-39 points
Round 8 will see the Sydney Derby return as the Swans and Giants clash at the SCG. The Giants are starting to establish themselves in the top eight, while the Swans face a tough season after starting with a 2-5 record. However, this is a derby, and form often goes out the window. We expect the Swans to continue their dominance over the Giants, having won the last seven encounters of the Sydney Derby.
Hawthorn vs Richmond
Hawks to win by 40+ points
Hawthorn will host Richmond at the MCG on Sunday afternoon for what is expected to be the most one-sided contest of Round 8. The Hawks are just four points off the top of the ladder, while Richmond’s 2-5 record places them among the worst performers so far this season. We expect the Hawks to win handsomely.
Brisbane vs Gold Coast
Lions to win by 1-39 points
Round 8 will end with the clash of the week as reigning premiers Brisbane host Gold Coast at the Gabba. Both teams are realistic flag contenders in 2025 and this promises to be an end-to-end contest. With that said, we expect the Lions to edge it, but it should be an enthralling game as the sizzling Suns push them all the way.
